KDE 4.1.3. Oxygen theme.
About 1/3 of my icons throughout the system are the default "question mark" icon. This is icons for files, menu items, buttons, etc. Open konqueror, and EVERY ICON along the left sidebar is a question mark. Open my home directory, about one in three files is a question mark. So, I'm not just griping, I'm wondering: Is this how it is for everyone, or am I doing something wrong? Because all these question icons go a long way toward making the desktop look broken. Imagine a windows box where all the icons were that ugly default file icon (you know the one I mean) and all the programs had the white&blue box icon. That's how my oxygen theme is feeling right now. yeah i know what I'm going to hear next... download $FOO_THEME from kde-look. I like the look of oxygen, but it seems a bit incomplete (unless, as I inquired, I'm doing something wrong).[/align]

It seems you are missing the icon files. Have you installed kdeartwork? What distribution are you using?

The default Oxygen icons are *not* in kdeartwork. They should be in kdelibs and kdebase-runtime.
Don't look back! (Or you might see the giants whose shoulders we stand on)

Which distribution are you using?
Please call up system settings and select oxygen as icon set and press save. That helped on kubuntu 8.10 Best regards
Please visit http://userbase.kde.org as well to get an overview about what kde can do for you :-)

I'm using Kubuntu intrepid. I'll give that a shot.

Tried it. Didn't work. Konqueror has all question mark icons in the side bar.
Strangely enough, it doesn't have this problem on my desktop machine at work. Both running intrepid.

Kubuntu offers a package called kde-icons-oxygen
It should be installed by default, but you should make sure it's really there.

It is installed.
I've just been changing them manually. It's probably some cruft in my config files from KDE3. Deleting konquerorrc files didn't fix it, though. Oh well, no biggie.
