I dont know where or who to ask this... or if this is even appropriate.
That said, I would like to sponsor the development of fluxbox window tabbing option into the kde 4.x interface. I have been reading the kde support page with various things from money , hardware to adopt a geek. I would appreciate it if someone could point me in the right direction. ps. I am sure most peoples first reaction is ... "why don't you just get involved and start programing yourself." Well I am not a programmer, just a 3d artist who uses linux everyday at work. Because of that I enjoy using Linux at home. Due to that I have grown a passion for linux and I see kde 4.x the best fruits to have grown out of the global effort and the only thing I yearn for is the ability to have window tabbing in the environment.

It would be better if you looked for a wish report about that feature in http://bugs.kde.org (I'm sure someone must have thought the same) or make one yourself and present that link when you send a mail to the KWin mailing list.

Bug report is http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=42023
As you can tell it's been there for a VERY long time (Six odd years). What we are lacking are developers and time. |

So from what I am hearing I should try to post something on the kwin mailing list that explains my interest and points to the bug/wishlist?
I have no concept of the current state of things... Is it a hopeless cause that I am inquiring about? ps. It is good to see that I am not the only person who enjoys the feature of window tabbing.(not as crazy as I thought)

wrender:
I do not think it is hopeless. There is some interesst in that feature. But well no developer has done it till today. Most of them are doing this without beeing paid, so they do what they like to do or what they need for them self. If you are really willing to sponsor someone I bet you will find someone who will do it. And if it is done in a way the other kwin developers are happy with I (as not being a kwin dev) see no reason why it should not get included. If you really can find someone who will do it depends on how much you are willing to spend. And yes the best place to ask for this is the kwin maillinglist. Explain what you want to have (together with a link to the wish report) and that you are willing to pay something for it. If your request seems serious i bet you will get mails aksing for details.

In that case, I will give the kwin mailing list a shot.
Cheers (b)...

What are the specific feathres you are most after (I'm not sdo familiar with fluxbox) but I'm wondering if it aligns with an interest of mine: To have a single thin bar (similar thickness to OSX menu) that presents a set of (always present) tabs for accessing everything (and incorposating a simple notification area and clock). I imagine the kick-off menu etc could all be implemented using plasmoids and you then have a tab that exposes that set of plasmoids. Other tabs for control panel/settings, folderview and each of the users workspaces (one or more running apps). No taskbar.
As I am a laptop user I'd also be interested in complimenting it with a very thin window decoration style; preferably one that made use of the often wasted space in application menu bars. But I'm ambitious here as so far I see there is still a lot of foundation work to be done in KDE. I am a developer, but not a KDE developer so I'm not asking for your money (will be badly spent). But I'd love to be able to get up-to-speed with KDE internals faster so I could do some useful development. Prblem is I think I would not be able to implement my ideas on my own either.

Thank you for your reply Andre.
I am in the middle of writing up something a little more descriptive and specific. Hopefully this will clarify things for those interested. I received a response on the kwin mailing list and it seems like most people are rather busy, however there are interested parties who would be willing to assist/help but not really take on the main role. Perhaps this is how it will unfold with several people poking at the problem As far as features I imagine it being the most basic implementation of it. There are many options that could be thrown into it and if the developer wants to deal with that .... power to them. However I leave it to their discretion. Once I have the proper posting I guess I am going to have to figure out a way to get whoever is interested and myself to communicate together. Perhaps the forum will end up being the easiest way.
