Hello,
I use Linux Mint Cinnamon if that matters (wich I don't think so). I have installed in software manager KOrganize wich I think is very good. But it also install KMail. I don't want to use KMail so I did uninstall it using Software Manager. But now KOrganize is dissapear from my menu. Software manager still tell me it is installed. Maybe I have to make a shortcut to it myself, but I don't know where the program is located. When I uninstall KOrganize and the reinstall it then I have it back in the menu. But then again KMail is installed wich I don't want to. Can anyone help here? Rgds, Wilfried |

the program should be /usr/bin/korganizer, doesn't seem correct that removing Kmail would remove the Korganizer menu item maybe it's a packaging thing
you can just deselect Kmail in the Korganizer settings menu and it won't appear as an option on the left side if that works for you |

Hi,
Thanks for reply. Ok so I did again a test (with software manager): - install KOrganizer; - make a backup of all files starting with 'k' in /usr/bin in a folder TestBak on my desktop; - uninstall KMail, The files that are deleted after uninstalling KMail are: wilfried@wilfried-virtual-machine ~/Desktop/TestBak $ ls kmail kmail_clamav.sh kmail_fprot.sh kmailservice korganizer kmail_antivir.sh kmailcvt kmail_sav.sh korgac Note that software manager still say that KOrganizer is installed. I did make a copy (as you see), but korganizer does not start anymore. Conclusion is that it need other files (runtime libraries?), or maybe the deamon application that it run with icon in taskbar. But I don't know the name of it. Is there not a way to install KOrganizer without KMail? rgds, Wilfried |

I just uninstalled Kmail and Korganizer still works in my distro so I would think this is a Mint packaging issue
Try re-installing Korganizer, looks like uninstalling Kmail removed the Korganizer binary which doesn't sound proper If you run ~/Desktop/TestBak/korganizer does it start and function? if you look at the files included in the Kmail and Korganizer packages do they both contain /usr/bin/korganizer? |

Hi,
Thanks. No if I execute ~/Desktop/TestBak/korganizer then it don't start. So I try to start in Terminal to see what is wrong and it cannot find a shared library: libkdepim.so.4. So I installed again and find it in the /user/lib folder. Seems this is a link to libkdepim.so.4.11.5 which is in the same folder. I tryed to make a soft link in ~/Desktop/TestBak/ with: ln -s ~/Desktop/lib/libkdepim.so.4.11.5 libkdepim.so.4, just to see if it works (!Desktop/lib/ is temporary copy of the user/lib folder), but it still get same error. However, I think what I try to do is not right. When something go wrong, or when there is an upgrade then I'm in trouble doeing so. So I think I leave as it is and let KMail installed. Unless there is a portable version of KOrganizer? PS: As you say, it is the Mint software installer. There is written in both packages: This package is part of the KDE PIM module. I assume that the KDE PIM module is both KMail and KOrganizer. So that explains a lot. It is only confusing... thx, Wilfried |

I agree you're best to leave Kmail installed
You could post a bug to Mint about the packaging No portable version of Kmail |
