Hi,
I have joined here because I have a problem with KDE on Fedora 23 that I can't solve, and I haven't been able to find anything online about my exact problem -- a few similar sounding problems whose solutions I have tried, but with no luck. I consider myself only averagely competent using Linux. I was fiddling around with the system settings and suddenly KDE froze. There was a plasma task icon came up in the task panel at the bottom, and the outlines of a pop up trying to appear above the task manager, but the pop up never actually fully appears, so I can't see what it is. Since then, I have worked out that if I delete the .config folder, it temporarily fixes it, but the problem keeps occurring. I have a sneaky suspicion now though that it may be the package updates pop-up that is trying to appear, because it happens now around once a day and keeps happening every time I delete the .config and reboot until I run dnf update, then it seems to stop; maybe the occurrence that happened concurrently with my fiddling around with the settings was coincidence. That's just conjecture though. Please could anybody give me any tips or ideas about what might be wrong, and how might I fix it? Should I report it as a bug? Thanks in advance |

you shouldn't have to delete the entire ~/.config folder, just reset your plasma desktop as a temp fix, see viewtopic.php?f=289&t=128783&p=343581&hilit=reset+desktop+google01103#p343565.
to test to see if its the updater plasmoid that's the issue: 1) see if you can disable it in system tray settings 2) try to remove the package, should be something like plasma-5-updates - I'm guessing this as I don't use it and Fedora may call it something different |

It appears to not be the updater. I disabled it, but the problem has just re-occured.

you could disable the entries in the system tray until you can id the problematic one, but since it may also be an app this may not work
still like that it could be the updater so I suggest removing the package |

as a temp work around try
this will kill and restart plasmashell so won't loose any customization, the sleep is to insure plasma has fully shut down before restarting (not sure critical but ....) |
