There's kde.org/applications but it seems outdated. Wikipedia has a list of kde apps but I don't know if the wikipedia editors come from kde at all. The list seems way too extensive to possibly be up-to-date. There's a lot of kde apps in the repositories but that doesn't mean anything as some haven't been actively developed in years. Some applications have their own web pages, like calligra.org, zanshin, which is actually zanshin.kde.org. There seems to be no standardization as to web pages for kde and it's apps. I understand there's a "website initiative" started in 2015 but I don't know how far along things went beyond discussions.

Is there an official list of applications?

First, small disclaimer: I'm still the newbie around these parts Last time I used KDE was around 2010 / 2011 I think (don't remember) so obviously my expertise is a bit limited (also because I usually don't bother myself too much with X).

Well, at least it gives you an impression. I looked around and eventually came across Revolvy which seems decently complete but also outdated as well I think (Quanta Plus brings back good memories).

I doubt that such a list exists, but even if there was such a list then I think your best bet is still to rely on whatever software repository your OS provides you with and start by searching through there. Might not be perfect but at least you'll get your hands on stuff which you should be able to use right away.

Of course, not fullproof.

Careful there though... Just because a program hasn't seen much development doesn't mean it's suddenly no longer worth the effort. A good example of that is Nethack, it only got a new update after 6 or 8 years. And why not? If a project is complete and done (which seems to apply to Quanta it seems, 2.0 final) then it doesn't always need continuous updates.

Of course, as usual, your mileage can vary as is the saying.

Yeah, I see that even though some apps are only updated for the latest version of kde that it doesn't mean much. If something's full featured and not broken, there's no need for much development. (if it ain't broke, don't fix it)

I found da list. From my other thread re: note taking apps, I had found that email re: kjots version 5 and within that email was "It was excluded from the PIM suite when we
switched to KF5 in KDE Applications 15.08 release." so I did a web search for "KDE Applications 15.08 release" and came up with; "KDE Ships KDE Applications 15.08.0" which links to a list of the apps, individually downloadable.

Seems pretty complete - minus kjots of course (and possibly others).

Of course as you say, anything in the repositories will likely work. KDE's strength however is it's full range of apps that are all made by the same people so they're more tightly integrated and have similar look and feel. Still not sure about this whole knaming konvention though.

With my surfing of kde.org with all it's different styled pages and sub sites and declarations of this page and that page not being up to date, I assumed those older styled kde.org pages were all outdated but I guess announcements are an exception. A lot of times you click a link and it looks like you just went to a totally different website.

"KDE Applications" is just one of the product released by the KDE community. Please don't use its content to a measure of all applications released by KDE.

Plasma (the desktop) is another of such products, and of course Frameworks is a basic one (a set of libraries).

Other applications released on different (maybe more irregular) schedule are Krita, Calligra, digikam, PartitionManager, and many many others (they usually report new releases on the kde-announce-apps@ list).
