strigi bug

Wed Nov 19, 2008 12:53 am
There is a bug in strigi that I do not find answered in Ubuntu or Kubuntu forums. Very little documentation about strigi. No man page either. It is a very nonintuitive interface on 3.5.10

Some users experience strigi taking over their home. It occupied 75 % of my /home in just a few weeks. not everybody uses du

I looked on their bug page, That specific bug was mentioned there. It is mentioned in over 4 postings on various forums. Not one word of explanation, just a final comment in every posting that strigi is easy to get rid of.

from my memory of how I did it, possible typos

wipe -qrc ~/.strigi/clu.../*
sudo aptitude purge strigi-client
sudo aptitude purge strigi-daemon
...

About 30 bugs overall on strigis sourceforge page. Not one developer of strigi had accepted a single bug as their own to the best of my memory.

This bug is in 3.5.10 and in the 4.1x series of KDE.

Is anything being done about this bug. Bugs like this if it bites newcomers might make them ditch KDE.

peace, mark

RE: strigi bug

Well, strigi is no KDE project. Though it is is related to KDE.

In KDE 4 Strigi is used with Nepomuk by 'KDE defaults itself. But that one is easy to disable in the KDE "Desktop Search" settings. In KDE 4.2 a own Nepomuk strigi service using the strigi libraries will get used.

But what you are seing is either a Strigi bug or a bad setup from your distribution. In anycase it is not related to KDE itself. KDE 3 does not use strigi by itself and KDE 4 only together with Nepomuk which you can disable in the System settings.

So file a bug for Ubuntu/Kubuntu or Strigi.
