Systemd free KDE?

Wed Jan 24, 2018 3:22 pm
Hi guys! :)

Do you know (or did you try) any distribution that ships KDE, not using systemd?

Personally, I use Debian for many years and I'm currently on Jessie (oldstable) and I have systemd disabled.
Current stable version (Stretch) makes virtual impossible to disable systemd, so it's a no-go.
Devuan distro that continues the Debian tradition in a systemd-free way, doesn't ships KDE (although one can install LXQt or Trinity).

From my own experience, only PC Linux ships KDE, without bundling systemd on your system.
Do you know any other alternatives-candidates, to meet that criteria?

TIA! :)
G.

I was using Void Linux with runit init system. It even has musl version (alternative to glibc) which for desktop is pretty exotic in my opinion. It has the latest KDE Plasma and KDE Apps, but at the time I was using it, it was pretty buggy (probably because of musl).

At the moment I stick with Arch Linux (systemd), but I have plans to try it again in the future as it will get more mature and less buggy KDE packages :)

You also could check out Artix Linux which is based on Arch Linux just without systemd afaik.

THANKS adomas!!! :)

I'll keep an eye on them.

Seems like PCLinux is the only systemd-free distro, that supports KDE.
Then LXQt seems to be the closer alternative KDE-based desktop and Trinity for the well-known KDE3 style.

Of course there's always the option going to classic Unix (non-Linux) environments (BSDs etc).
Bye! 8)

Lets let Gnome3 be the only desktop environment to not only ruin its packages (Nautilus has been severely crippled and usable functionality removed) but also adopt the horrible and very much unsecure systemd. This way KDE does not have much competition and as a bonus it wont be compromised with poorly coded packages.

LibreOffice and GNOME are both bloat monsters (just hate them at all), so thanks to KDE here for having made Plasma and Calligra very much less bloat than them :)
