So I posted the quoted text below in a linux gaming forum, and was wondering if there is a real interest (maybe after enough people get the word out) maybe we can pull together resources and find volunteers that perhaps could get paid via platforms like this: https://medium.com/gitcoin/open-source- ... 852cbb6247
if it works for hardware contributors as well.

Anyways I think that with the advancements in manufacturing precision tooling/materials as well as game development optimization tricks we could create and Open source GPU/gaming PC that can rival what we had 15 years ago.
take for example the Geforce 4, if the patents for it ran out we can reproduce something just like it and improve on it.
which that's like the first god of war level of graphics and I'd say that's pretty awesome.
I think with the right educational videos of values to both developers and gamers the community would be willing to make a small visual sacrifice to support a dedicated O.Source gaming pc.

this is what needs to happen:

Where I timestamped the video (8m 53s) he talks about how by ceasing to buy products from anyone who claims to own more than he has a right to.

We must contemplate seriously on our values and not get too caught up in having best and latest hardware at cost of bring stuck in a proprietary vortex where lets face it someone at the top stands to gain more.

Thankfully if we chose to make a move to abstain from buying into what they're selling. There's plenty of gaming products to revisit of course too. but also perhaps (see below) we can create new opensource tech by going back a few years in terms of tech < this is what we have to contemplate over. everyone stands to gain from this in the future and we can look back with satisfaction on our efforts to not go the self centered I-have-the-best-PC route.

It puts emphasis on how change/the world we shape is intimately tied with culture.
What's the Next Big Thing in Tech? It's Up To Us

"At the WSJ Tech D. Live conference in Laguna Beach, Calif., this week, what became apparent across dozens of talks, classes and informal chats is that, when almost anything we can dream up is possible, the most important factors in the spread of technology are now cultural. Not every new development in technology leads to an Uber-scale industry, of course, but here are five trends that highlight this shift. China's success in addressing tech needs at home has made it a global leader. As Google struggles with walkouts and morale at Facebook craters, many workers at Chinese startups are so committed to their work that they've adopted a grueling schedule called 996 -- 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week. In 2018, China will eclipse the U.S. in spending on R&D, projects the National Science Board. "

by communication among ourselves as gamers we can do the same we can shape a culture that fights for what right for all.

The ideal culture I see is one of us speaking out against and not supporting people who would use police to prevent people who are merely plagiarizing (no actual direct harm in plagiarizing, even not having money is not a crime either). Everything is based on claim and of course they cannot prove that they have more right than you, So just do not support those we collectively notice are abusive. the world of ideas and development being restricted by greed should not be tolerated.

Also check out this post I made today on creating an open source PC (CPU/GPU):

If we can get upwards of halo 1 graphics (potentially even Wii to near PS3 level graphics)
imagine how we can narrow the margin of choice gamers would have to do. they could pay considerably less for a PC and feel better knowing they are supporting a sound cause.
at the cost of lesser graphics but we all know gameplay comes first and I'd be so willing to sacrifice gfx for a good conscience and likely better gaming community/experience.

conclusion:
gamers need to organize and work together to no longer support greedy companies. with patents ending on some decent tech there is a real opportunity presenting itself.

I actually think it would make for an awesome challenge how far can we push oldschooltech
Be more resourceful find nifty optimization tricks.
