Now python-kde4 is missing in the SUSE repositories: although not critical I would have loved to start working on Plasma scripting...

They could be having trouble building kdebindings, I know that's been an issue we've been facing at Kubuntu.

@ JontheEchinda

You said Kubuntu will package kde 4.2 alpha in this thread:
showthread.php?tid ... alpha+kde+

Now 4.2 beta is out and Kubuntu still cant offer packages for KDE 4.2 beta :-(
I'm not blaming you, but I'm waiting since 4.2 beta release for Kubuntu packages - especially becauöse there were packages for 4.1, amarok and koffice

KDE-Nightly is cool but it's not the entire desktop environment (kopete, gwenview and a lot of other apps are missing).

Are there any Kubuntu plans for providing beta packages so users can test the beta or should I better go for ArchLinux instead? Or does anybody know another Debian based distribution that offer KDE beta or svn packages?

Thanks

Yes, but they are running a little late due to the Holidays.

I figured so. Perhaps, at least with regards to Python, that the bindings require snapshots of PyQt and SIP.

Yeah, we're updating PyQt4 to version 4.4.4 to see if that helps.

Hey, Hey, Hey!

I'm running the beta on a kubuntu 8.10 Desktop machine and I've come across some odd behavior. Whenever the computer has been idle for more than around 10minutes or so (don't know for sure), something does bad and grinds one core of the cpu(50% cpu load). The annoying thing is that I cant see what process is doing it since it only seems to be doing this when idle and the screen has turned off. I looked through the system logs too but couldn't find anything interesting. I first I thought it was the npviewer.bin flash thing, cause after running ff for more than 30minutes it turns into a cpu hog and for some reason makes X and the whole desktop quite unresponsive. So now I figure it have to be related to the power saving futures, of which the settings I find somewhat confusing.

I'm gonna do some more testing now..

Edit: After some more testing around I saw that it was Xorg that went haywire, and it seems related to the power saving futures. I changed all timings to one minute under the performance profile, since it seems to be the only logical one. I still have to point out tho that, I'm not using a laptop and my computer isn't connected with an AC adapter as suggested. And, after about a minute Xorg panicked (it seemed less than one o_O). Changing all options to "do nothing" seemed to have solved the problem tho.

The problem you describe Farmer was fixed yesterday by the developer of PowerDevil. the bug affected both 4.1 and Trunk.

i have installed beta kde-4.2 on suse-11.0 installation.
though only few 4.2 applications are available for suse-11.0 it works nice.
i liked the panel adjustability feature is very nice.
dolphin konqueror are nice.
i have not yet found any problem so far.
i wish if the meta version of kde-4.2 is available:-)

i run ubuntu-8.04 with kde-3.5.10 and kde-4.1.2
as version-8.10 doesnot work for my hardware 845 motherboard p4 with 15" LG monitor.
i had to go back to 8.04.
hope the kde-4.2 will be available for ubuntu-8.04 someday.:-S

It won't be in KDE 4.2. Feature freeze was a long time ago, and the plugin is in playground.
