I've recently seen discussion about QT 6 being in the making. While I admit I don't fully understand why we need a new QT remake just a few years after QT 5 which was built on the most modern architecture and ideas available, I'm not against the idea and will hope for the best. None the less I am concerned of what such a change could mean for KDE: Between the KDE 4 and Plasma 5 transition years ago, almost everything had to be redone and a lot of features and widgets were lost until new alternatives got coded.
So I was firstly curious when Plasma 6 is itself scheduled to happen and if an experimental build even exists at this time. More importantly though I wanted to know if any plugins or existing functionality is expected to be removed (even temporarily) and there are other issues to expect overall. If work is already being done on the project, may I also ask if there are any screenshots from KDE 6 and if there will be new features or any performance improvements from the remake? |
