This makes sense, and would make 'applications:' much more useful.

Makes a lot of sense, and kinda reminds me of what the guys writing the kpackagekit programs talked about: if you right-click on say Krita in Kickoff/classic/lancelot, there should be an option like "Uninstall this program" or "Download add-on scripts/artwork/clipart/whatever". I'm not entirely convinced of the last one though, but that's just a sidepoint. The basic idea is very good and the rest are "only" implementation details.

I really like this idea, because it is so intuitive. It would be good to talk to the kpackagekit developers. Perhaps some code could be shared between both projects. There should also be an easier access to applications: I have not known about this shortcut for the location bar.

Other than the fact that the likelihood of me typing "applications:/" into the bar of Dolphin (I use breadcrumb anyway) is near impossible - it's a wonderful idea!

Actually the last idea is already there. That means you can rate the icons, tag them and place a comment on it. It's just that I haven't found a way to actually do something with all the data. Kickoff could be good place for this, I think.
Dolphin has more hidden features like this. For example, when you browse a tar file with Dolphin, the "tar" buttons appears on the breadcrumb. When you click on this, you can find these hidden features.
Well you could place a shortcut on the places panel. Just like in OSX. I noticed that Ubuntu brainstorm isn't the right place for this idea because most visitors are Gnome users. That's why I think we need our own.

There is on kde-look a kde4 brainstorm http://kde-look.org/index.php?xcontentm ... 408f59b9d5 But most important is that the dev. people also reading those kind of brainstorm things, if they don't then it doesn't matter where you post it, then it is only a user discussion what never become something.

The newer version of Brainstorm will have much wider support for KDE apps. Check it out at http://devel.ideatorrent.org
