I think those two components should work with social networks (facebook, myspace, twitter, linkedin, digg, flickr, picasa etc.). In this case user:

• user can send and receive messages on facebook, myspace and other networks directly from kde app (kmail, kontact, kopete?)
• gets notifications what's going on on with his friends on these networks (inspired by digsby)
• user can "ping" (update status on) all those networks with one program (or plasma applet)
• user can display a list of recent events on desktop (plasma?)
• user can add contacts from social networks to contacts in addressbook so that clicking a contact will show last email conversations, last chats, last twitter/facebook statuses, last photos
• if user wants kde app could monitor changes in facebook contact details, linkedin job changes etc. so that when user changes phone number he will be prompted to update his addressbook entry.
• support for any network would be made as a plugin so that regional or exotic networks could be added by local programmers

I hope you like this idea, it was inpired by digsby, flock, twhirl applications and I really hope social networks integration will soon be added to kde.

But it seems that the development on this is not very active at the moment. I am not sure whether it is already integrated. If not, perhaps someone could have a look at it to push it into the 4.3 release.

And I think somebody is working on a kind of image resource for Akonadi for sites like Picasa, Facebook, etc.
