Experiences of Mozilla Qt Port ?

Fri Dec 12, 2008 12:39 pm
Hi guys,

Since Mozilla Qt Port has been available for testing for some time, has anyone had any time to test it?

Info about the port can be found here: http://browser.garage.maemo.org/news/10/

As a happy FF user I'll try to find some time to try it soon. But if anyone has experience and feedback about it, let it out! :)

I compiled and tested it some time ago. It looked horribly broken and was mostly unusable. But it seems like they've made some mentionable progress since then.

I'm most eagerly waiting for Konqueror to become the same thing as what Safari is for MacOS nowadays: a nice, lean, fast and standard-compliant browser. And, in addition to that, well integrated. And this approach seems to come nearer and nearer.

Actually, it seems to be suffering the same fate as the qt3 ports. Big splash then fade...

Last commit was in August

Guess I should have searched harder. Looks like it was merged with main.

I just finished compiling the latest firefox-3.1b1 using the Qt toolkit. I have to correct myself again:

It looks horribly broken and is mostly unusable.

After catching a first glimpse, visually nothing (zero, nada, nüx, kein bisschen) is happened since Nokia promised to help porting Mozilla to Qt.

Agreed. And it makes the gtk one look beautiful.

Off topic, it takes less time to build KDE than firefox :-O
