That view-mode is what Krusader is for...seriously though, while Dolphin can be used in that manner I think Krusader or something like it is a better fit for a twin-panel mode.

Never heard about that one before :-O does it have an embedded terminal that follows the navigation in the gui? I've become very addicted to this future.

Yep. Here's an install guide I wrote for Krusader 2 (SVN) on KDE4:

krusader-2-0-svn-i ... -8189.html

It was in Kubuntus experimental.. Version 2.0.0-beta2 "SVN TRUNK Space Odyssey"

The default setup had too many buttons tho, so I customized it, and ended up making it look very much like I've setup my dolphin :) There are some details that differs, some I like, then again, dolphin too has things that krusader doesn't have so it's not enough to motivate yet another browser switch.

Hello fellow KDE Users,

I am running KDE 4 but with Plasma workspaces on Centos7

It took a little scratching around but I figured out how to have a "Computer" icon on the desktop which when opened opens the root folder..
Here is how (assumes you have your KDE Desktop in folder view mode):

cd ~/Desktop

vi Computer
# in vi or your favourite text editor, insert/add the following code:

[Desktop Entry]
Encoding=UTF-8
Icon=computer-laptop
Name[en_US]=Computer
Name=Computer
OnlyShowIn=KDE;
Type=Link
URL[$e]=file://$/

Save the file (in vi - :wq)

Enjoy the new Computer icon on your desktop !
