OK few bad things I noticed while I'm using Arora:
No way of saving your passwords (but I guess tat's because it's still in heavy development) Close buttons are only on tab tool bar not on tab it self like you can configure in Konqueror. And instead of opening links in new tab it opens them in new window... But the checkbox bug is apparent only on GMail. KDE Forums render completely right. Here's a screenshot for it: ![]()

I have the close buttons on the tab. I believe it is a setting, available under preferences ( Edit > Preferences > Tabs )

i'm using arora 0.5-1.4 in opensuse 11.1 x86_64, kde 4.2.64-3.1, Qt 4.4.90+20090223-1.1 (4.5), & the oxygen style, but unfortunately all these rendering issues are still present.

I don't like an idea to use Oxygen-styled form controls in the Webpages at all (and it works this way in both Konq and Arora).
Yes, these widgets look pretty much nice inside a desktop app (oven another gray background), but I don't believe any webmaster expected forms to look this way in his/her pages. These buttons/checkboxes/dropdowns/etc are simply inconsistent with the most web-pages design. Also, there are some glitches with the line dimensions (e.g., checkboxes; or text-fields' height) and broken background (e.g., below the rounded corners of the buttons). I think, there should be a dedicated set of widgets, used specifically for web-pages (and adapted to them). It can be another sub-project in the Oxygen. Or, there should be a tool for choosing some other existing theme for web-parts (e.g., I could live with QtCurve here). Whatever. Do anybody share my thoughts?

I think this is very problematic, because you have to provide these widgets on each operating system or desktop environment, respectively. The client side is responsible for rendering buttons, comboboxes, etc. But these widgets should at least be themeable according to CSS specifications. These were also introduced to ensure corporate appearance on different machines.

Unfortunately it would require writing a completely new QStyle for this to happen, due to the way the applications work. QStyles are not particularly easy to write, and there are few of them ( I know of only two non KDE / Qt shipped ones )

Well, I never though this way. For me, everything looks "adjustable" (for example, being an end user, I can easily select e.g. QtCurve style, to be used everywhere[including HTML pages' content] instead of Oxygen; and everything will be Ok). Isn't there any relatively quick way to use just a different style for rendering everything inside an "HTML" area of the browser?

I'm using wekitkde now on Kubuntu 9.10 in Konqueror and succesfully changed the view mode to Webkit. Most websites look really good
![]() But every time I go to another page, it switches back to KHTML. How can I set Webkit as default? |

Open System Settings > Advanced > File Assocations. Expand "text" and find "html" then change to "Embedding" and move WebKit above KHTML.

Thanks, that worked
![]() Wow, Konqueror is really fast now ![]() It's so fast that I'm now thinking of switching back from Chromium to Konqueror ![]() |

Personally, I don't notice the difference... It obviously works better with a few websites, but I've never had a problem with it being outright slow...
Anyway, back to the main topic: The only thing that looks really oxygen-themed about forms are the backgrounds and borders, both of which can be changed in CSS. Take this forum, for example: textareas and text inputs are generally very square with borders that change with focus, while buttons, bullets and checkboxes were left unthemed and so look oxygen-like.

As for me, WebKit is much better than KHTML but too unstable and crashy in Konqueror. That's why I use Chromium for now.

I have seen in some sites, the drop-down menus cant be shown with webkit (chrome) and with konqueror they work fine !
If we like khtml (like me) and we dont want to switch to an webkit browser but to promote the khtml, is something that we can do for this ? personaly when i see a site that does nt works correctly in konqueror i report it. |
