I think, for now at least, that's the best that can be done. Would like to see more developers throwing their weight behind KHTML, myself, but with Webkit apparently being so much superior there seems little enthusiasm for, "where it all started".

The thing is, I don't mind if it's not as fast as Webkit (it's already fast enough on most websites that I find the difference negligible), as long as it works. KHTML should be sufficient for not-so-hardcore users, and if people are going to move away from KHTML and to Webkit or Firefox, then it should be because they want to, not because they have to.
That's my take on it, anyway.

I'm just testing out webkit for konqueror. It's quite buggy in KDE 4.4.5. If it gets stable it would be interesting to pit konqueror with webkit against arora and rekonq.
