Suckiest thing in a list of sucktasticness in KDE4-Color Schemes don't import.

That would be the lack of ability to import KDE3 color schemes. I've got several dozen custom created color schemes. I use my computer very nearly the entire time I'm awake, and I'm very affected by what I see on it. Different colors affect my moods very different ways, and I have created color schemes to influence myself a lot of different ways, to help myself relax, to help myself focus on a task, to make me feel better when I'm feeling sad, etc. I've spent hours tweaking and perfecting these color schemes in KDE3, and there's just no way to move them to KDE4 thus far. The kcsrc files are just a basic text file listing what rgb code should be used for what setting. While I freely admit I don't code, it seems like it should be the work of minutes to write something that grabs the values from the kde3 kcsrc files and creates whatever sort of theme file kde4 needs, using those same values.
The return of kcontrol as an optional way to access settings would be great too. I don't need a bunch of big icons and 'advanced' functionality carefully placed on a separate tab. What I need is one simple dialog that lets me see every accessible settings control option. I'm all for making things safer for the less advanced user, but that should NOT come at the cost of functionality for the more advanced user. KDE4 seems to be all about making things look pretty, big shiny icons and pretty effects, but it really seems to be falling down on basic, working with the computer functionality. I desperately hope KDE4.2 resolves this, and finds a balance between shininess, user friendliness, newb protection, and functionality.

According to the feature plan, it was scheduled for 4.2 but didn't make it:

That's...promising, actually. Means maybe I can get ahold of a beta version of the color scheme import or something, and at worst, I wait for 4.2.1. |

KDE Minor releases ( example - 4.1.3 ) are not permitted to add functionality, only major releases ( 4.3 for instance ) are.

You may want to ask Matthew Woelke about his plans for this feature, since he's the person who usually works on color management in KDE.

I had planned to email the person listed, at some point after I've had some sleep and attained a higher level of coherence. ![]() |

It might even be the case that a small converter script can be written, in which case it can be provided as an add-on, not dependent on KDE4's release schedule. Maybe you could ask Matthew about the feasibility of this?
Please post your findings here ![]()
