Advertising KDE4? Sure. Why not? !!!
I think I might have an idea on how to do it 'on the cheap' as we say here in the states... kde4 now has the ability to record your own desktop video. Kde should set aside some space so that kde users can record about 60 seconds of their own desktop "in action, and in all of it's functional beauty" and then upload the video to the set-aside kde space (maybe on apps.kde.com or something...) Imagine if all Kde users agreed to put the weblink in their signature line of all posts and outgoing emails... casual non-kde (non linux too!) users would see the link in the signature and check it out! Maybe something like : Mark Shelby check out my beautiful KDE desktop! (Not a real video link here, just a sample-link!) What do you all think?

You do know that KWin saves this video in a very strange format: .cps which has to be changed into something else (forgot how).
And KRecordmydesktop, is buggy with compositing enabled, at least the version in Ubuntu repo. But I think it's interesting idea. A bit less violent than the pushing CDs to all that you know. So those that are really interested can see it and ask what that is and try it if they like it...

The recordmydesktop should work fine with compositing if --full-shots option is enabled. I've learnt this thanks to a comment on my blog by Temet, when I was complaining about the issue

A good hosting site is blip.tv, because it also allows to download the original video and thus doesn't force usage of Flash.
You should contact the kde-promo mailinglist to see if they already have a channel set up there and how users could upload their video or have someone upload it for them. Cheers, _

Check out our Klassroom about recording screencasts, there are helpful tipps and also some links to already finished screencasts on blip.tv

Yeah, the klassroom proved quite an insight on how to produce screencasts. I may write a topic on that in the future in the Tutorials section.
