It has the Kiosk framework ( which is apparently being redeveloped for KDE 4.3 ) which allows the desktops to be restricted depending upon the User or Group(s) the user is a member of. This configuration could probably also be shared among many machines using NFS / CIFS / etc.

Though I wouldn't use it in a corporate environment yet, it will offer a consistent desktop across an entire organisation using different OSs. Most companies only replace desktop hardware over several years; hitherto, that meant different desktop OSs and desktops - even on Macs and MS PCs - over several years as the hardware is being replaced. KDE offers a single desktop with all the economies of effort needed to maintain a single piece of kit.

KOffice2 will be the first new office software for over a decade - one could argue, for over 20 years - and also offers the chance to improve productivity by getting rid of longwinded traditional ways of doing things. OK some staff will want to hold on to their older programs but KDE allows them to continue to use them on the same desktop as newer programs.

how is this different from user accounts used now? forgive me if I'm ignorant to your reply.

This is really interesting. It sounds great, but how will kde remedy older hardware?

Kiosk allows an Administrator to lock down accounts, so the background, screensaver, etc. can't be changed ( it can lock down quite a bit more than that.... )

For a corporate it would be KDE 3.x without question.

Older hardware should not be an issue as KDE relies on the underlying OS to handle the hardware.
