What are the differences of packages shipped by these distros? I heard amarok 2 will be shipped with Kubuntu 9.04.

Amarok 2 is also in the experimental repositories of Debian. I'm not sure what the differences are between Debian and Kubuntu exactly.
What I do know is that Kubuntu moves faster, often at the cost of stability. I believe KDE 4.2 on Jaunty Jackalope will run on Qt 4.5, despite KDE 4.2. not being tested with that version of Qt. So Kubuntu will offer more bleeding edge features (the Networkmanager widget, for example), but Debian is a more stable choice with regard to KDE 4.2, I think.

thanks for that info mensch. Any other personal experience from Kubuntu 9.04 alpha users?

Just installed Kubuntu 9.04 beta (was running alphas before)... and things are very smooth and stable (using nvidia proprietary driver)... some missing features like native k3b (which will hopefully be completed for release) and no WPA2 wifi or VPN/PPTP in network manager plasmoid...

Thank you, I think I will give Kubuntu 9.04 a run.
