Hello, I'm just wondering what the current status on KDE 4.2 is now.
I mean, if I use KDE for my desktop in the distro I use, do I just update KDE within the repository as before? Is there any modification/update to be aware of? Is there a page on this site of the instructions (are they the same as before)? I'm asking because I have a Fedora 10 install that I haven't updated KDE yet (to KDE 4.2.1). I would like to. I am just wondering if I just choose 'updates' and then update the software listed. I think yumex would do it? My Kubuntu install is more up to date so I am mostly wondering about the Fedora KDE update. Thanks (in advance) for any answers. |

KDE 4.2 has already been released. I believe KDE 4.2.2 will be released in a couple of days. I believe Kubuntu have repositories available for KDE 4.2.

Unfortunately KDE 4.2.1 will not highlight as the best release of KDE, I could not continue using konqueror for crashing an cookie related problems, and I think that is better wait for version 4.2.2 but, of course, is my opinion.
If you need Asian languages input (Scim/Skim) better forget it and wait or prepare to suffer ![]() For day by day basics I think that 4.1 are more stable than 4.2.

If you took a look in forums.opensuse.org you would notice that a vast majority of users there think that 4.2.1. is a far more stable release than the 4.1.3 that came with 11.1 I must say I agree with those users. I've found 4.2.1 a huge improvement compared to 4.1.3

I'm not talking about improvement, I'm talking about stability. If you can't delete or rename a file using Konqueror or Dolphin (this problems seems to be solved in part) and needs Konqueror 3, if Konqueror crash more than four times in an hour, and if cookies don't work I think that there is a problem with 4.2.1. I don't know if all that happly users only work in english but, for me, using spanish, galician, japanese and english is sometimes a hell and Konqueror 3 is my salvation. Do not try to underestimate the fantastic work that is in KDE 4, I'm using it and reporting bugs because I know that in a short future will be the best desktop but actually this is not true and denying it's not a good idea. http://www.alweb.dk/blog/anders/goodbye_konqueror https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=184973 https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?quicks ... eror+crash https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=japanese https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=spanish https://bugs.kde.org/buglist.cgi?quicksearch=encoding So if someone asks advice on whether to switch to 4.2.1 my advice is not change and wait for next version.

I am running KDE 4.2.1 on Gentoo and I have absolutely no problem with stability - neither KDE/Plasma nor applications like Konqueror/Kmail, etc. I cannot remember when it crashed last time, tha last problem I had was NVidia 180.35 obvoiusly not caused by KDE team
