Gather round, my children!
Ok...I'll save you from my 'Prophet of the gods' act. Now, NEPOMUK is aware of its...lack of usefulness. I've been in discussion with Sebastian Trueg, the NEPOMUK-KDE developer. He and I are aware that the importance and usefulness of NEPOMUK is lost on many people here, both users and admins alike. First of all, I'm currently writing a document that will explain NEPOMUK's usefulness to the END-USER (IE, You.) and I will show you, with the power of words and mockups, what NEPOMUK opens the door to. We are also aware that to many of you, it's just something eating up system resources. Beleive me, you'll WANT it on after you've read what I'm writing. -Dante

At last
![]() Without a proper document with nepomuksearch:// syntax is very difficult to use it.

Wow, cool!
We should have rewards for people working on end user documentation, especially for the advanced stuff. Cheers, _

Almost done! I'm just doing a few tweaks...talking of medals, gold plated will do fine!
![]() On another note, I would appreicate it if you spread it around.

Once it's done, it could be put on Tutorials & Tips and also on KDE's UserBase. It would be extremely useful.

My apologies. I'm waiting for Sebastian to get back to me on the pre-release of the document I sent him. It won't be long now...

*phew!* http://latm.aihub.org/2009/08/what-nepomuk-means/ Sebastian wanted it on my blog, I wanted it in a .pdf, I made a compromise. ![]() It's a 6 page document, introducing NEPOMUK and what it can do. Enjoy, and please give feedback ![]()

Well, I read it and..., well, another document about Nepomuk's future so nothing new. I think that your document will be focus on "how can I do things now" and not in "things that I will do in the future".
I'm still looking where is nepomuksearch syntax documentation because without that document I can't report search bugs. Without a powerfull query system Nepomuk will be fail.

This was not intended as a high-level technical document. This was intended as an introduction to NEPOMUK, so written because I noticed many people did not have a clue as to what it was. I'm sorry if you thought otherwise. It's an overview, nothing more, nothing less. It's intended to get rid of ignorance and inspire and indeed, educate. Sorry if you thought it was something other then that.
As to why you would run it, well. You ARE using a computer, aren't you? I can assume that as your here, you are at least familiar with the concept of a GUI? NEPOMUK is simply the next step up for it. Quite a few people here, I think, would of seen my brainstorm suggestion of KIIM. NEPOMUK provides the groundbase for most of KIIM's abilities, and in time, will provide for more. Dan

With Nepomuk you can tag, score and comment files and directories since KDE 4.1. nepomuksearch: and KRunner plugin was available since KDE 4.2. Where is that documentation?
I have a comment about my trial and error tries of using the query system with available tools. I told again, how can I report bugs about a thing that nobody knows how it works? The most advanced text about nepomuk query syntax you can found in this forums is mine and I'm really far of be and expert and I'm not sure if there is no errors in it. There is a lot of documentation and blog entries about how marvellous is Nepomuk since more than a year but there is nothing about use it. I think that is time that Trueg write an entry about the current state of Nepomuk in current KDE release and not about how Nepomuk will be in two or 3 years. Do not get me wrong, I am not criticizing your work that I find it interesting as an introduction to Nepomuk but we remain as ever. Yes very nice, but how it is used?

Asking details to Sebastian Trueg might help. Besides, some applications are already using Nepomuk quite well (Gwenview).

Well I must prepare a test case about inconsistencies in query system and report as a bug but I really can't call bugs because I don't know if really are. For example, rating is a numeric value but:
query: nepomuksearch:// rating=1 result: nothing query: nepomuksearch:// rating:1 result: correct for me this is wrong but I'm not sure, could be a feature. About queries, sometimes a query that fails minutes later works. I'm not sure how can I report this as a bug. About Gwenview, add a tag named "Tag that really don't works, seriously", assign to as many files as you like and try to use it. If you do the test don't forget that there is not a method to delete a created tag ![]()
