[Wishlist] Okular plugin for Firefox

Wed Oct 15, 2008 11:51 am
I opened a request here:
https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=172858

If you like the idea and want to support it, please vote with your account, I really think would be a huge improvement browsing pdf files through Firefox, Opera or whatever.

There is already an Okular KPart, which allows you to view documents inside Konqueror, among other things. But making a KPart is only for KDE. To make it work for other browsers, such as Firefox, will require more than just a KPart. And as the maintainer of Okular already replied in the bug report:

Code: Select all
Not sure how this is doable (nor easy).

Of course, anyone who has any idea, or better yet, actual working code, is more than welcome to try. :)

A KPart-Plugin for firefox - in the sense that Firefox can use all KParts - indeed would be great.

A usable Konqueror in KDE 4 would be better.

A KDE browser based on gecko would be even better.

In KDE3 times there was an experimental Firefox (or maybe generic browser plugin) called Dragonegg which would serve as container for KParts since other browsers.

It hasn't been ported to KDE4 (yet).

Cheers,

I read about an add-on for firefox which loads plasmoids. But AFAIK it is experimental by now. But perhaps, if you want to develop a KPart plugin, there you can get a hint how to start.

Cheers, m.

Why a Gecko KPart? If we can get a WebKit KPart, we wouldn't really need Gecko since Safari is pretty well supported these days. (Isn't there going to be a stable WebKit KPart in KDE 4.2, actually?)

Yeah, once the webkit KPart stabilizes I think I might be able to migrate back to Konqueror for integration hotness.
I'll still miss the Awesomebar and RSS feeds in the bookmark toolbar.... Oh well

Am I like the only one here who actually *likes* KHTML?
