KDE 4.1 got released, but still many distros ship with KDE3 and optionally with KDE4, leaving the choice to the users, so, what are you using now?
Talking by me, I have tested KDE4 since the betas compiling it weekly on Debian, I remember, but it is still incomplete for me, since I want to have some applications that aren't ported to KDE4 yet, like k3b and Amarok isn't stable yet. So I will wait few weeks more until some of mine favorite applications become KDE4 ones, or probably I'll wait till KDE 4.2. However, what are you using now?

I'm usign KDE 3, but it's because I've got a nVidia 8400M GS, and the 2D acceleration of this board on Linux sucks. Even vesa makes KDE 4 run faster.
But I have the 4.1.0 version of KDE. KDE >=4.1.1 solved this problem? |

hey, why not making a survey out of this thread?
I use KDE4 since some beta version of 4.1 in Kubuntu. It was always quite stable and it doesn'gt bother me to use some kde3 software like amarok or k3b. On the other hand I recently switched to Kontact after six years of evolution to make my loved plasma desktop more homogenous... Nevertheless right now I sit on a KDE3.4 of an eeepc... My wife would kill me if she would find the smallest bug or problem after updating it to kde4.1...

I'm using KDE 4.1 on FreeBSD, not GNU/Linux. Perhaps a moderator would like to move this thread to the "Discussions & Opinions" forum, as your KDE version has nothing to do with what OS you run it on.

I'm using kde 4.1.2 on my laptop (celeron 1500, 2 gigs ram, 128 mb shared intel graphics) with opensuse11. 4.1.2 is the first version that works without glitches (4.1.1 had several plasma applets that didn't work), with desktop effects working out-of-the-box (previous versions of kde 4 didn't allow desktop effects on my laptop). On my desktop i'm using kde 3.5 (pentium 1500, 1,5 gigs ram, 256 mb nvidia graphics) with opensuse 10.2. I'm not using kde4 on that system because opensuse does not provide kde 4.1 packages for 10.2. On both systems, i'm using applications of kde3 and kde4, e.g. i'm using k3b and amarok of kde3 on the laptop with kde4, while i'm using okular from kde 4.0 on the desktop with kde 3.5. The fact a kde application has no kde4 version doesn't stop me using kde4: i simply stick with the kde3 version on the kde4 desktop.

The thing that makes me want to go back to kde4 the most is konqueror. Konqueror in kde4 is slow as hell for me and I miss all my service dialogs. I'm trying to costumize kde4 as much as possible so I'll get used to it but it's hard to keep myself from pulling out the old konqueror.
I think that kde4 just needs some more polishing and time, and it will probably be usuable for the avarage user in 4.2 at least. |

The version I tried (admittedly 4.0) wouldn't give me wireless network on my Thinkpad, and after that I was doing stuff I didn't want to interrupt. Now that's finished and there are newer versions, I'll probably migrate quite soon because I liked what I saw when I briefly used it.

Still using 3.5 myself. I'm one of those people that want guaranteed 99.5% stability during general usage. Will be switching to 4.2 when beta 2 is out (There will be a fair amount of merging near hard-freeze so beta 1 is going to be slightly more unstable than usual).

I'm using KDE 3.5, as all my computers are running on sidux. I have tested KDE 4.1 on Mandriva Linux, but it's just not ready to replace 3.5.

I'm using KDE 4.1.2 on Kubuntu 8.10. I used KDE from 3.0 until 3.2 then switched to Gnome. But with KDE 4's cross platform capability, and my everlasting love for KDE-PIM, I'm back!
