You would need to compile KDE manually in order to do that. The best thing to do would be to wait for KDE 4.3.2 which will likely contain the fix.

When will be release? |

Unfortunately the release schedule does not state this date yet. It will probably happen in the next 1-2 months.

KDE 4.3.x releases should be monthly, IIRC.

Hi,
I am on Kubuntu 9.04 with KDE 4.3.2 updates (from "http://ppa.launchpad.net/kubuntu-ppa/backports/ubuntu" repository), and I'm having very slow logins after the "Folder View Widget" was added on Desktop (with the location: "Show Desktop folder", that contains 26 documents and 5 directories that contains about 30 Gb of data). The "folder view widget" is rendered quite fast on login, but it "freezes" the desktop about 90 seconds (i.e: to be able to launch "konsole" from taskbar). When I remove the "folder view widget", the login takes only 22 seconds (but I don't want, because it is very useful). The system is nearly 3 years old (Intel Core2 Duo 2.4 Ghz CPU, 2 Gb RAM, Nvidia 7600GS) , but works fine for required applications (after the login is completed)... Should I have to install more RAM? Or upgrade the graphics card or the CPU for KDE 4.3? Any other suggestions? (than clearing files from "Desktop" folder) Thanks. |

It is unlikely to be a CPU / Memory / GPU related issue, but more related to having 30gb of data in the Desktop folder. Do you encounter heavy Disk I/O while Plasma is locked up?

Thanks for the response, bcooksley.
You are right, the disk has heavy I/O activity during login... It seems the "Folder View Widget" is trying to read the "Desktop" folder files... but I also tried to disable "show previews" in "icon settings" from "Folder View settings > Display" options.... Curiously, when I change Location to "Home" directory (with the same Desktop folder + 4 Gb additional data), the "folder view widget" doesn't cause login delays... |

You may wish to report a bug at bugs.kde.org. Please include a full ls -la listing of the ~/Desktop and ~/ directories. You may wish to clear the names of the files, but if any use special characters, please make sure to mention this in your report as well.

Well, KDE startup is very very very slow anyway comparing to Gnome. I do not know what it is doing while displaying fancy splash screen with blinking hard drives and globes, but I think there are nothing too important, it is just the old **** code, KDE developers do not have desire to throw away.
