Finally updated from 3.5.10 to 4.3.0. Not because I wanted, but because the dependencies on my laptop (running Gentoo) became unmaintaniable for 3.5.10 (I had a Qt3/Qt4 lib mix, some apps didn't even build because of this).
Ok. I have "a clean 4.3.0" installation, no old remnants left. I'm impressed. This is the first time after about a decade, I have my old - long forgotten - fvwm2 feeling again ![]() Seriously guys. How ubergay is this? Resizing window is **** (ok, that could be the driver - radeon driver on a FireGL V5200) transparent ghost window borders after wakeup from hibernation all around Sure, xglobe won't run anymore on the background. That was known before as it's mentioned in the "what's new" document. Yeah right. "We have taken the chance to create something completely new ... yadda yadda ... not anymore the desktops of the 80ies yadda yadda..." Lamers. Almost nothing works. Icons keep wandering around on the background. No matter if I select fix location. Having the panel vertical on a side border shows how clueless people programming it must be. The pager is 2 or 3 major steps back in functionality compared to the old pager. The handling of icon descriptions is not even worth a laugh: 'root@fulcrum' gets truncated to 'root@fulcr...' There's simply too much going wrong in KDE 4.x, being done the wrong way... I suggest listening to DMs "wrong" to get a grasp. Yes, it's a rant, yes I feel betrayed, having been put checkmate by people who do not take nor programming nor user requirements seriously. Richard |

I'm sure the KDE devs are quite tired of having had this argument for 2 years. They're not changing their minds. They're sticking with what they've got now and that's that. Don't like it, go and use something else.

Note that while XGlobe is not available, Marble is available instead, and should provide comparable / more enhanced functionality.
Window Resizing was previously an issues with Qt 3.x, except a patch in qt-copy corrected this. I believe Qt now includes this as of Qt 4.6. It is currently being debated whether KDE 4.4 will depend on Qt 4.6. Transparent ghost window borders - sounds like an issue with your graphics card driver. Try disabling Desktop Effects Icons keep wandering around on the background - Have you switched to the Folder View containment in Cashew > Desktop Settings? Vertical panels are not used that commonly, I would recommend filing bugs for all the Plasmoids that misbehave in this configuration at bugs.kde.org Pager problems - File feature requests at bugs.kde.org assuming they don't already exist.

Have you considered Stasks?
Try asking someone to hack Stasks to work with kicker, and you'll get laughed at, because, you know... with Plasma, this kind of thing is easy now.
