What non-kde4 apps are your standards - and why not use a kde4 app.?

Yes it is, but the port for KDE 4 is currently still in production. The current K3B relies on KDE 3 libraries and is therefore a non KDE 4 application - the same goes for Klibido for example.

firefox -- no flashblock; gmail doesn't work; no DNS cache
gimp -- never bothered to check out alternatives
mplayer or totem if I install gnome based distro and kde later on it -- for mplayer the reason is mainly because of mozilla-mplayer plugin (vlc plugin doesn't have controls and kmplayer or kaffeine-mozilla plugin just doesn't work for me) and for totem the reason is ... well it simply appears to work in firefox (ubuntu)
oo -- never bothered to check out alternatives
command line apt or synaptic -- can you recommend something like synaptic in ubuntu? (no thanks for adept)
not sure about audio player yet -- amarok for kde4 looks awful, but rhythmbox isn't much better either

in conclusion I don't really have any good reason to continue using kde - I feel happy with gnome now;-)

Firefox - Konqueror just doesn't seem mature enough as a web browser. Lack of support for rendering GMail and my WordPress backend is a definite repulsion. If these were fixed, I would probably use Konqueror a lot more.

(G)Vim - Love it. If Kate allowed for Vim integration, then I would use Kate.

MPlayer - Plays everything. I'm used to it.

OpenOffice 3.0 - I haven't actually tried KOffice but from what I've picked up it doesn't seem to be has developed enough as OpenOffice, and there are some issues with file formats. I might be wrong, so please correct me if I am.

The GIMP - I'm used to The GIMP (after switching from Photoshop) and I haven't tried this Krita program yet; perhaps next time?

Code::Blocks - I'm learning C++, and KDevelop kept on crashing when I installed it. I'll try installing it again later.

Audacity - No KDE equivalent.

Blender - No KDE equivalent.

KDE Apps but not KDE 4 Apps - K3B, Filelight

- OpenOffice: supports MS Office.
- Firefox. Like the look and plugins, can't wait for Linux version of Cooliris
- Thunderbird. Is comfortable with it.
- Skype. No Real reason, I thought everybody used it?
- Gimp. Just learning, so used for small jobs really.
- VLC. When nothing else plays it this one normally does.
- E-Sword. Still the best free Bible study program out there.
- Audacity. Not used that often but love the simplicity.
I need time to familiarize myself with the kde apps as I have only been "Linuxing" for 1 year.:-)

Ummm... I still use KDE 3 most of the time (as I'm a sidux user), I do however use Ktorrent from KDE4 (because it is standard in sidux/Debian Sid an I would have to compile the KDE 3 one by hand).

In my short periods of using KDE 4.1.2 on Mandriva 2009, I use Firefox as browser because Konqueror in KDE 4 is just plain ****.

OOo ─ i hope a finished KOffice 2 can replace it, because i do not really like OOo
Kile, Konversation, Digikam, K3B ─ KDE 4 port in production, afaik
Gimp ─ i got familiar with the few functions i need from time to time
Eclipse ─ maybe the KDevPlatform may replace it?
Skype ─ it starts automatically^^ in fact i use it rarely and sure could live without it
aptitude ─ i simply like it better then the gui-apps

Qbittorrent - I like it much more than Ktorrent
VLC 0.9.x - It works better than Dragon player, especially with subs, and it's qt4!
OO.org - I just find it more complete and professional than Koffice
Gimp - Same as OO.org
Firefox - Same as Gimp and OOO.org :D
Thunderbird - I love it + lightning, thus kmail is not bad.

Cooliris, if you mean the preview plugin, has been running on my FF for Linux for more than a year....

Inkscape - do some nice vector art, no replacement yet
Gimp - do some nice pixel art, no replacement yet (waiting for krita)
Firefox - don't like it that much, but i need it for checks, firebug is awesome
Opera - also for checking of websites
IE4linux - yes... i would love to NOT need it...

Quanta - it's a beast, really, there is nothing better out there for me, i would be really sorry to see it gone
Kaffeine - that's my TV, and everything else, port not finished
Digikam, K3B, Konversation - simply because the port isn't finished

Hm...I'm not sure about this one. Depends on how you work I suppose, but to me those two complement one another rather nicely. For me, krita is more suitable (when the KDE4 version doesn't crash on me that is...) for doing pixel art from scratch but Gimp is more suitable if you want to do retouching on photos and other pictures you already have.

Maybe that's just me though...

Anyway, non-KDE apps for me would include:

*MS-office through Wine (mostly because OO.org, good as it is otherwise, don't always import MS-office files correctly. It usually does so MS-office is only my backup-plan...)
*OO.org 3. My workhorse...
*Firefox. When I used KDE3, I used Konqueror. The KDE4 version is too buggy for my liking. And there are too many sites that I need to use that I need to alter the ua-string for...although less of those if you use the webkit kpart.
*VLC/SMplayer. Well, at least the former is using Qt now...the latter always has AFAIK.
*On Debian based distros, Synaptic or apt-get. Adept is too slow.
*Amarok. Okay, so it's KDE but KDE3. It will take a while for me to get used to Amarok2, and it needs to stop crashing first...
*Inkscape, XaraLX. No decent KDE alternatives exist.
*Scribus. See VLC...
*Maple on occassion, and the less I have to the happier I am.

I think that's it, except a couple of games.
