Deleting Plasmoids

Tue Sep 08, 2009 5:37 am
The KDE devs have done a superb job (IMHO) of making it particularly easy to install brand, spank-me new plasmoids, google gadgets, and Dasboard Widgets in Plasma. But how about removing them? There are now a number of things I've added (plasmoids and the others) that I have found little to no interest after having tried them. Google searches (and a Gentoo Forum post) have shown to me that deleting the *.desktop files for the plasmoids will remove them from the list when I go to add new ones, but basically only removes the name from the list, not the plasmoid from my computer. Is there any way to do this without running a 'make uninstall'? (One would think there would be a 'delete plasmoid' option in the same area that you add them, but there may be good reasons for not having that)

You can also do that through the "Get Hot New Stuff" system, by clicking "Uninstall" on the widget you wish to remove. I do not know how this applies to Google Gadgets however.

I've seen the 'Get {whateverimabouttoget}' in several areas, but I haven't seen any for plasmoids. Could I trouble you to direct me towards where you are looking?

It is in Add Widget > (something else near bottom of dialog ) > Download from Internet.
This dialog has been removed from Trunk unfortunately, so I cannot tell what the full path is.

Hi!

I've installed some plasma applet through "Get Hot New Stuff" but at the moment there are three applets that I can't uninstall as they are not listed in the list of available applets. I can find them in "~/.kde4/share/apps/plasma/plasmoids" where also another applet can be found, that I also see in the list of available applets and can be uninstalled.
By talking about "list of available applets" I mean the list of plasmoids you see if you try to install new plasmoids from the Internet (Source = Kde-Look.org Plasmoids).

I suggest that the list of locally installed plasmoids receives a new button for each plasmoid to uninstall it (if it has been installed by the current user).

Regards,
Andreas

Do you think this might be something they'd re-implement later, or might it be an idea to put in a 'formal' request? (Bug report, e-mail a dev, etc...?)

It will likely be reimplemented at some point, otherwise it is an extremely severe regression.
