Serious attack to konqueror

Thu Sep 10, 2009 12:16 am
It is a serious error as you include a file manager Dolphin. Konqueror should continue to improve. I do not agree to use another program that limits the versatility of konqueror.

I could do many activities with konqueror. One of the reasons why I switched to free software is the great value and versatility that the konqueror that you are limiting because now is not developing rapidly.

Go back to giving priority to Konqueror.

It was already clear that you mean what you say after reading it one time. But having 3 exact same posts in 3 different topics doesn't make it more clear.... which ones should be deleted?

Why?

Konqueror should continue to improve.

Agreed.

I do not agree to use another program that limits the versatility of konqueror.

Then use Konqueror.

This is not how KDE, or Free Software in general, works. Think about it. Who are you to demand what developers - most of them on their free time - work on? There is no KDE overmind that can command everyone to focus on improving Konqueror.

Now, put yourself in the developers' shoes. You work on KDE because you enjoy it. Would you like if someone told you "no you shouldn't work on Konqueror, we have to give Dolphin the priority"? Probably not, especially if you don't even use Dolphin.

You know what's cool about Free Software? You can be part of it. If your wish is to improve Konqueror, there are many ways you can help: file bugs on http://bugs.kde.org (after checking for existing bugs to avoid duplicates), contribute with patches etc. You can find more information here.

But in the same way as above, I can't demand that you work on Konqueror.

I deleted the other one, since it is in the wrong forum anyway.

Whatever the case, if you prefer konqueror, use konqueror. Dolphin was not meant to replace konqueror, it was meant as a basic, dedicated file manager while konqueror has remained the very advanced, multi-purpose file manager and web browser. That was the key problem, KDE did not have a basic file manager targeted at ordinary users. That was the hole Dolphin was made to fill, and it was a pretty gaping hole. The same could be true of web browsing, which is why we now have rekonq and arora (like rekonq, dolphin was originally a third-party project I believe). I don't see how it limits the versatility of konqueror. Konqueror uses the dolphin kpart for file browsing, meaning most improvements made in Dolphin are also made in konqueror. On top of that, konqueror has its own improvements beyond those found in Dolphin.

System Settings --> Default Applications --> File Manager --> Konqueror.

Stop whining like this is Windows or something. It's not. Put the effort into actually changing it before deciding that, 'the defaults are absolute'.
