Hello, dear members

I recently installed Fedora 11 (i686, KDE) on my Toshiba Satellite L305. Everything seemed OK (except of hibernate/sleep problems), but few times I had to shut my machine down with forced 4-sec power button press.

At one moment the desktop simply got covered by gray and white squares. I cleaned plasma config, the squares disappeared, the desktop was with a wallpaper like in the beginning, but a strange line with a height of simple desktop panel looking like a part of desktop appeared on the top. All widgets/pop-ups including main menu ups are docked to the screen top although the tray is in the bottom and Process Manager doesn't show up on CTRL+ESC.

Tried logging with different users, tried cleaning all existing configs (/home/user/.kde, /root/.kde) - no success.

Looking forward to hearing soon...
Regards, Andrew

// edited: no crash reports were ever shown - just one moment everything became as i described

Here's how it looks now (look at the top-left):

the littlt line at the top is the only place that reacts somehow to the mouse click.

CTRL+ESC - still no result...

Why do you have to force shutdown? Are mouse and keyboard locked?

No, Fedora just didn't want to wake up from sleep, so I had to reboot hardly (that was few times). I guess this is the problem, but don't know how to make files check. Now it works fine, I can surf the internet, but: 1) the desktop isn't okay - for some reason it's situated in the smaaaaaall panel at the screen top (see 2nd pos, screenshot), 2) Even the process manager doesnt work

Okay, I've fixed it a bit... chmodded to 777 everything in /usr/share/kde4 and cleaned /usr/share/kde-settings. The desktop is OK, the process manager and volume wheel still don't work

after restart - same **** as in the 1st post.

Can you possibly try reinstalling kdebase-runtime and kdebase-workspace?
Also, can you reproduce under a new user?

Logged in under new user - same. Will try reinstalling kde.
By the way: I reinstalled Fedora before yesterday, and it worked perfect. I was switching off normally, and the squares appeared again... Can the problem be in compiz? Cause I launched it yesterday for the first time

Compiz should not be launched by default under a new user, so that should not be a problem. It is likely to be some corrupted files that are a key part of the KDE installation ( in particular Plasma )

Hooray, I updated kdebase (kdebase, kdebase-runtime, kdebase-workspace, kdebase-libs, kdeplasma-addons) from https://admin.fedoraproject.org/updates ... -2009-9397 to 4.3 and everything is perfect now.
Thank you for help!
