I am not sure if this is where i need to post this request so if its in the wrong place let me know.

I have KDE 4.3 and Xorg 1.6.3.901-r1 and kernel 2.6.31 on Gentoo. I am so far just starting X from a command line rather then from a graphical log in manager. When I type startx and have kde auto loading it starts kde and i see my background and the loading screen that has the icons that appear as kde loads. At the end of the loading screen is the KDE icon. This icon never appears and the screen goes blank. I can still see the cursor however and move it around. I will also get some popup messages about misc things. I can press ctrl alt del and it will bring up the logout dialog and i can get out of kde. I am not able to get anything when i press alt F2 though. If i run my x server without auto loading kde i get an xterm window where i then enter startkde and kde loads and works ok. If you have ever done this however you know that it looks a little weird because of the xterm windows. I installed KDE on my machine when i had kernel 2.6.30-r5 and xorg 1.5.3 and it worked fine however i was having some issues with my ati radeon 3200 card and i wanted to upgrade to try out the new ati driver for it. i did not uninstall kde at all however so it is still the same build from before i upgraded xorg. I have since tried the video driver that i was using when it worked and i get the same result.

Any suggestions or advise would be helpful. If anyone knows what is loaded while the KDE logo appears at the end of the loading screen it could be helpful cause thats where it cuts out.

Thanks!

Could you please provide the contents of ~/.xsession-errors from when KDE fails to startup?
