If you really think it's strange that two people disagree about KDE4, then I guess you must not get on the internet very much. ![]() I'm one of the unlucky ones who is getting inferior performance. Also, as I said in another thread, for me it's all about Konqueror. Konqueror is why I will always use KDE, and while Konqueror 4 as a file manager is still taking shape, it's taking shape so slowly that I'm starting to bear a grudge. It wasn't until 4.3 that the directory filter bar was restored as a plug-in. Also I don't care for plasma. It seems kind annoying. So, to sum up: really slow, an annoying layer of software over everything, and the only Desktop application that I have ever been passionate about, while not exactly ruined, is no longer something to be passionate about. It's also got a weird sterile sci-fi look, and it takes a long time to set up. But the kicker is how I feel when I am using it... not really depressed, just sort of sad and uninspired. I can try to give you rational explanations, but they don't matter. The rational thing to do would be to just work with it, I know that. Objectively, it's not that bad. And I've tried to like it. And tried and tried. I've even managed to convince myself that I like it briefly, but that never lasts. I admire it, and I support it. I think there are some good sound reasons why it's an important project that will benefit the world of free software and the world in general. But, yeah, I will go to extraordinary lengths to avoid using it. Because it makes me sad. (Although I try every new release, and do my best to keep current with it) |

I am not sure what you mean, I have been using multiple monitors with KDE 4 since the beginning. Actually, they work better for me than they did on KDE 3.5 (but that may be more of an issue of nvidia improving their drivers since then).

Out of interest, is there anyway to get KDE to run on multiple displays WITHOUT having to ask the nvidea-drivers GUI to do it? (I ask only because I have a machine that does not require nvidea)

You can set up Xinerama or 2 seperated displays with an X-server on each. But xinerama is probably what you want.

Yeah... I think this is part of the Display systemsettings module, but it's not finished yet... there's a bug report about it somewhere. Strangely, this has been fixed in OpenSUSE, and I think they should have sent the patch up-stream, so this may well be possible in the future.

openSUSE has sent the patches upstream, and the improvements will form part of KDE 4.4.
