How do I upgrade to 4.3.3? It's not in the repository. |

It depends on which distribution you are currently using.
For openSUSE, packages are available from the openSUSE Build Service. For (K)Ubuntu, packages are likely available from a Personal Package Archive. Debian packages likely exist somewhere, but I would not know where to begin looking unfortunately.

Sometimes, I swear there is a memory leak somewhere in the core in relation to KWallet. Out of curisioty, why does Amarok need KWallet to function?

last.fm support is enabled by default
ps: I never got what kwallet was about what is the point, everytime I comply and start a kwallet supported program I have to fill out a user and password anyway, so might as well just not use it (gnome-keyring is much better in that repect) ps: here is a simple patch to disable this: http://svn.mandriva.com/cgi-bin/viewvc. ... rev=460181 you wouldn't even need to recompile, just edit the amarok_service_lastfm.desktop file and change or add X-KDE-PluginInfo-EnabledByDefault=false to set it to false |

Silly me. I was editing this file and somehow delete it. Where can I find what was in it (or somkind of backup)?

You have completely missed the point of kwallet. I can store as many passwords as you wish, and it does so with encryption. You can configure (using kwalletmanager) how long it stays open. As long as it is open you will not be asked again for a password for any site/application it knows about.

Like I said gnome-keyring is just a lot better in that respect, it doesn't bother me like kwallet

I'm still looking for the 4.3.3 package, but in the mean time I think it may be graphics related. My other PC running Kubuntu Karmic does not have this problem. It is a newer nvidia card (though a lower model), so I'm wondering if it's the nvidia card I'm using. On my Debian Lenny (KDE 3.5) desktop, the CPU idles around 10%. As stated earlier, the CPU idles around 40% on the KDE 4.3.2 desktop, with Plasma and X seeming to use 10%-20% CPU each (until it spikes to 100%). I noticed the nvidia driver from nvidia's website is 190.42; the package in the repository is 185.18. Does the video driver make a big difference on KDE 4's performance? |

The NVidia driver can make a large difference in KDE 4's performance. upgrading to the latest version possible is always recommended.

KDE 4.3.2 has some flaws which lead to software rendering under certain unpredictable occations. anyway, if it is slow you wont get it faster by changing the video driver (I had this on nvidia and ati). upgrade to 4.3.3 will do the job.

I've searched launchpad for a PPA containing KDE 4.3.3 base but I'm coming up empty. Does anyone have a link to a PPA that contains the KDE 4.3.3 files needed to fix this? Thanks. |
