According to this, Kopete<->Telepathy is, "in progress", but what will that actually mean? Does it mean that we can connect to any network Telepathy supports through Telepathy and benefit from its features, e.g. video support?
This is kinda confusing, because if I were to use the WLM plug-in and the Telepathy plug-in, I might end up with 2 separate MSN contact lists. Or is this being implemented some other way?

There was a GSoC project on Telepathy integration. It lives in playground and there were even blog posts about it, but I'm unsure of its current status.

I'm still not sure I understand - take the example from my post:
How would that end up working?

To give you a really quick answer: there is some work on a Kopete plugin for Telepathy which would work exactly as Madman says, including the potential problem of if you have the account once with the Telepathy plugin and once with the MSN plugin, you would get logged in twice. However, this plugin is fairly experimental. The idea of it is to get something working in KDE using Telepathy. It's there to give early adopters something to have a go with, and to try and encourage new developers to get involved in the effort
![]() The real plan, which will take some time to accomplish I might add, is to port Kopete entirely to Telepathy. Then all of its protocols will be Telepathy Connection Managers and we get a great Telepathy enabled IM client for KDE ![]() As for which features are supported: at the moment, only Text chat in Kopete - but hopefully before too long we will have the other cool features as well. In the playground, there is a program called KCall, which is entirely based on Telepathy and has support for voice/video calling. It is still quite experimental and lacks a nice UI - but well worth a try if you're interested. |
