hello,
i just installed debian squeeze with the new kde4.3 or so. i've been using kde for the past 7 years so i'm somewhat used to konfiguring it to suit my personal tastes etc etc blah blah.. . the thing is with the new kde4 i have no idea what is going on, i can't find the kde control center which has all the options so i can deactivate all the "****" and personalize whatever is left. i'm dont want to be a bad critique, i've been using and defending kde for a while now, but this time i can't find *anything*. so what is the deal ? is there a package that i need to install to be able to configure this thing ? i installed kdebase and then kde-standard (hoping that would contain kcontrol thing, but that actually installed mysql-server because apparently even netbooks need to have mysql running.. ) sorry, i'm a bit aggravated by all this. .. i hope i'm just missing something very obvious and that i won't have to resort to install windowmaker.. : ] |

kcontrol is not anymore, it was replaced by systemsettings some time ago and now also includes the same way it was displayed like in kcontrol. It is a configuration option for systemsettings itself

"systemsettings"
yep, that is the one configuration tool that i did find, but now that i look more into it there seems to have been a bug with how i looked at it.. . i really thought i was using macos for a while, but it seems the real stuff is still there.. thanks for pointing that out to me, i'll take another look at it.. : ] |

Take a look at Userbase if you feel lost - a lot of useful information there.
