Just 2 Questions this time:
Is there a special resaon why KDE 4 does not like the compositing extension of the RadeonHD driver? I can turn on desktop effects but a second later KDE informes me that it has turned them off again. Is there a special reason why konsole crashes permanently? Longest session in 6 hours testing was 2 hours, shortes just some minutes. Somehow I haven't seen this in the tests before. |

There are only two reasons that I can think of for this to happen - either the RadeonHD driver is asking for something that would be dangerous with desktop effects on, or it is asking for something that would make your system difficult or impossible to work on. Either way, it seems to be protecting you.
If others were seeing this I'd expect it to be all over the forum and mailing lists, and it isn't. I suspect it is related to your first question. Both seem to be a driver issue.

well, KDE3.5, fluxbox, googleearth all work fine. konsole crashes even when run under fluxbox. and there are complains about crashing konsole.

Complains? Like in bugreports?

I don't think anybody has filed a bugreport. I won't, too.
For me it's goodbye KDE4. I've already spent too much time on this beta. Maybe in a year or so, but most likely not. For my work it's KDE3.5 till it vanishes, for rollouts ist's GNOME. |

So how should it be resolved by the developers if nobody submits a bugreport??
Seriously, you want them to guess what can be the cause? Well, whatever, if you are happy with 3.5 it's fine, as it is still around and even provided by some distros (what they should). |

I use RadeonHD - desktop effects always work for me. My konsole never crashed either. If it would, first thing I'd do is file a bug report. If I cant do that, I'll not rant around and waste my time. Beta, seriously? ![]() |

I am using radeonHD 4850 with AMD Catalist 9.10 driver. Yakuake works just fine and without a single crash on kubuntu 9.10
Some times after relogin desktop effects getting off, so I just disable inner check in System Settings.
