Why in the world are the thumbnails for programs in the taskbar so small? When hovering over a running app in taskbar, a big square showing the thumbnail appears but the thumbnail itself uses only 50% of the space.
Any one knows how to change that? Ideally there should have been an option to make it appear like in win7 and even to change it into a 3d look like in mac. A combination of mac and win7 taskbar would have been great. |

It is the same **** with smooth task.
take a look at this screenshot. It shows all instances of Dolphin, but why is the dolphin-icon included in the thumbnails? I already know it is Dolphin. Why are the preview given such a small space? Come on, this is ****. Remove the program icon and expand the thumbnail-preview to the edges so it is possible to see what it tries to show. |

smooth task has two kinds of thumbnails views, the other is like win7.....

Is this the sort of screen real estate maximising thumbnail you want?
![]() That's STasks, the original task manager that Smooth Tasks was forked from.

Yes. that one was much better. How did you get those 3d-mac-like taskbar? Is that STasks as well?

It’s actually the “Saber Tiger” plasma theme available on kde-look. The task manager in use is STasks. Square border instead of rectangle, and removed the glow. I don’t get the parabolic zoom nor the dynamically scaling panel but it’s OK.

OS: Kubuntu 12.04 (Beta 1)
KDE: 4.8.1 Found this thread while looking for taskbar thumbnail customization tips... Is there a way to increase the number of thumbnail entries in the taskbar thumnail view? Looks like it maxes out at 4. I often have more than 4 gvim windows open and would like to be able to get to all of them by hovering over the gvim entry on the taskbar, but it currently only shows 4 of them. I looked under System Settings --> Desktop Effects --> All Effects --> Taskbar Thumbnails, but there's no customization option available for it. TIA! Dai

http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Sa ... ent=100426 is what I found after a quick search.
This thread was originally extremely old, and that theme hasn't been updated since 4 years ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if it didn't work at all now - but feel free to give it a try ![]()

Thanks. I can't get 'STacks' to work either... I get it installed but something is missing for it to actually work. I'm looking into that. Reed |

Well i might just as well pick up this thread since it deals with my problem, more or less.
I would like for the icons of my opened programs to display without text on the taskbar (they can even be small i'll just resize the bar), but the text takes up WAY too much space on the task bar. A windows 7 sort of view would be perfect, just on the default taskbar. I don't really want any different taskbars....mac style or stuff like that, i just want the icons with no text. Maybe there is a solution to this already within a settings, since it's been so long this problem has been addressed (as it seems to be from the various unresolved forum threads on the web)... |

This is known as "Icon Tasks" - you simply need to change the applet from Task Manager to another one.

Thanks for the reply....i now got the hang of applets (or "plasmoid binaries/scripts" ).
I had some problems compiling "Icon Tasks"(seems like all applets need compiling :/ ) because the dev made some mistakes or something like that (the applet isn't updated for the latest kde i think)....anyway i discovered what i was looking for was already built into kde! ![]() In case someone is interested: Editing Mode(yellow plasma icon on toolbar)->Add Widgets...->"Icon-Only Task Manager"->Place it on a "panel"(toolbar) making sure you have space, and it's perfect, and it's even got all the colors and everything. Very Good! Would've been better if it could've been enabled directly from the default "task manager" 's settings though.... Thanks! |
