Multimedia mice

Thu Dec 10, 2009 1:31 am
Why can't proper support for mice with extra multimedia buttons be added? And by extra multimedia buttons, I mean extra buttons such as ones on the side (i.e. back and forward). Firefox seems to have this hard-coded into it, so why can't KDE at least have options for this in the keyboard and mouse section under personal settings? Editing xorg.conf is hit-and-miss with this, and more times than not it's a guessing game of what to map to what.

Do the KDE developers use the cheapest-of-the-cheap mice or something? (I don't mean this in an insulting way or anything)

It is due to a limitation in Qt, the framework that powers KDE. When this is corrected, then KDE will gain the functionality virtually immediately without changes being required ( or with them being minimal ).
