KDE on my opinion

Fri Dec 25, 2009 3:54 pm
I was using GNOME..I just have few moths on Linux, everybody talks to me about the friendly Desktop of GNome..when I switched to KDE..I saw a more complicate one on KDE..but anyway I do prefer KDE..

I prefer KDE Desktop because it is more like something actual...and Contemporary...and it has its own Original concept..

Using and KDE Desktop I do really fells that I am Using a O.S. that can compete with Windows or Mac OS.

For now..I do have to say...that after came to KDE I finally feels myself installed on Linux.

Happy Christmas and welcome to KDE :)

Have tried Gnome many times, but I don't think my computer likes the threat of it being thrown through a window,

Have been using Kde for the best part of five years and I really love it, and I hope will do too.

Stick with it, because I really do think the way things are progressing, it could be the best desktop ever (Thanks to the great Kde team).

You will have problems, but that's what this forum is for!

Good luck and enjoy.

Welcome!

Yes, I too know the pain of GNOME (thank god for 3.0 and Canocial, I just can't STAND it's system tray!)

For me for long time Red Hat = Linux. I didn't know that there is something called - distribution. Installed Ubuntu: January 2008.

As majority of users I had dilemma - GNOME or KDE. My first DE was GNOME because I wanted to try something new and KDE looked too much like Windows.

I liked KDE 4.0 but it was buggy and I could not leave with that. Next version was 4.2.2. Still buggy, and I had GNOME installed until KDE 4.3.

Now I run only KDE. Version 4.4 RC1. There are few unfinished things but it's good... Also several applications are crashing but hopefully it will be fixed for final.

DigiKam is using 100 MB of RAM when you start it, and when you browse images it goes up to 175 MB. This is one of things I really don't like. I have 2 GB but nevertheless...

Main reason for me to switch to KDE from GNOME: Gwenview, digiKam, Dolphin, k3b, customization, Amarok. Off course I use other apps like PIM, VLC (not kde), and hoping that Kdenlive will become valid replacement for Premire, KGet for GetRight, plus some other things. BasketNotePads is dead project I think... o) :)
