i installed the 2nd beta of the new kde 4.4 (running kubuntu karmic)hoping for nepomuk and strigi to work at last. however when i try to enable nepomuk and strigi i get a message that virtuoso is not installed and virtuoso plugin is required for nepomuk. unfortunately i do not know how to do that. i love kde
can not undertand why strigi is still in the packages since it creates all these problems to 99% of the users. wouldn't be nicer to integrate with an other indexer, say recoll - xapian or other??? has anybody been able to resolve this matter in kde 4.4 beta 2? |

Note that if you use repositories, look for Virtuoso there first, although Kubuntu may not have packaged it ( they haven't packaged libssh either, so no sftp kio slave for 4.4 beta users )

well jajaX reply has done the trick. now running kubuntu karmic 4.3.4. i stopped nepomuk service. installed virtuoso , then sudo kate /home/manos /.kde/share/config/nepomukserverrc (manos should be replaced with actual user name). amended soprano backend to virtuosobackend. after completion, i restarted the nepomuk service and strigi from system settings. amazing. things seem to be working properly. strigi indexed the internal disk in a few mins and i could actually find indexed items in krunner. now for the real test, currently indexing my external 250gb hd. still indexing, but so far seems trouble free. fingers crossed.
jajax, thanks again |
