Hi all,
I'm a long time OS/distro nomad who's favored using his Nokia N800 as his production machine until recently when I finally got fed up with Maemo's constant bugginess (and Nokia's unwillingness to fix it). I considered switching to Windows 7 on my netbook through their "win741.com" student pricing scheme, but then I realized that the $30 offer only applied to Windows 7 from Vista upgrades and not full versions; there's nothing more irritating than unusable upgrade CD's long after you've wiped the original OS from your system. Despite increasingly dreadful releases, I decided to give the most recent version of Kubuntu a chance, and I have been incredibly satisfied with KDE 4.3. No random Akonadi crashes on startup anymore! I'm ever impressed with Konqueror's and Dolphin's integration with everything and I was delighted to see the KDE shim on OpenOffice, especially the open/save dialogues. I converted an old mini-ITX computer into a NAS using FreeNAS (after I modded the infamous VIA fansink with a whisper quiet Silenx northbridge fan, something I'm particularly pleased about) and now I've got my SFTP share integrated throughout all the applications, thanks to the excellent work of the KDE and Kubuntu teams. Thanks for everything! |
