There is some problems that persist for me from Beta 1 and I wonder if they will be solved when 4.4 will be released.
1) Dolphin is unstable and at the end of the day I have two to three dozens of crashes and several times simply stop responding. Move, copy or rename big multimedia files and right click seems to be mortal to Dolphin. 2) Virtuoso hangs, a really big problem because more and more kde aplications are using nepomuk. Change to virtuoso 6 will be a solution or a source of new problems? I bet for more problems. Sesame is slow and with java dependencies but, at least, don't hangs and I prefer and application in java that works than other in C++ that hangs. 3) Akonadi, in theory a big improvement to pim applications is a big eater of resources and is unstable. I can put all my contacts in memory 10000 times and I don't spend as memory as akonadi and, fortunately, I'm using an external MySQL server. A paradigmatic sample of a technology that it not ready and must wait to future KDE 4 releases. Obviously developers solved many problems since beta 1, and there is many other minor and mayor problems unsolved, but I'm pointing the most important to me: the file management, system performance and pim. Are you people experiencing similar problems? Are my problems related to my distro, openSUSE, and I mus't change it?

A lot of crashes in KDE are due to Qt 4.6.0. I run 4.6.1 and I've yet to see any of the problems you mention. Virtuoso works OK (make sure you expand the RAM allowed for Nepomuk if your system allows it), and Akonadi does too (please, at least read the design principles before calling it a "waste of resources").

Akonadi/Nepomuk and KMail problem - there is a bug, identified and the fix is being tested, that causes nepomuk to search every mail in your store for matching addresses. It will, in future, stop as soon as it finds one match, but currently is continuing as long as there is mail to search. If you have many thousands of messages stored it takes a long time, and that's why we are seeing freezes while it frantically hunts. Don't ask me what happens if it doesn't find any match - I haven't a clue, but since the devs are now aware of the problem I assume they'll sort that out.

Thanks annew for your answer, I currently have over 4.000 messages so my problem could be related.

Notice that in the case of freezing, KMail exposes a bug down the stack (in dbus, to be precise). I think a workaround has been already applied in the 4.4 branch.

I need over 15 minutes to collect this crashes launching Dolphin from konsole. The method is simple: launch dolphin, open a folder with music files and play a few with then (select, deselect, rename, copy, move, delete...).
As you can see, the crash is never for the same thing so I don't know how I can report this problem:
And one of kind of "stop responding" (about 40 seconds) is adding a new tab but the same with right click but not always:
Any ideas?

Providing a backtrace of this crash along with a bug report would probably help getting this fixed, especially if the backtrace is always the same.

Try disabling file indexing (in the systray), there is a bug that causes dolphin crashes when indexing is enabled. Sebastian Trueg (nepomuk dev) is working on the problem: bug1 bug2 bug3 Stopping nepomuk solved the problem for me but that is not a solution so I hope it is solved for the final release of KDE SC 4.4. |

I have strigi disabled but I will try to crash dolphin with nepomuk disabled. Thanks for your help. Update: I disabled nepomuk and "stop responding" problem seems to be solved and Dolphin seems to be stable so, probably, the source of my problems was nepomuk ![]()
