Hi, I'm an ubuntu user and I have tried kde (kubuntu) several times but I always returned to gnome. Kde 4.X looks really great on screenshots but I just cant use it. I think, that some things concerning design are wrong.
The main problem for me is the grey colored flat windows. (i know that there are other themes but they are not perfect too) concerning plasma - I know that its really innovative but apart from panels it is not very useful for ordinary use of system. other example - desktop folder view - compared to gnome it has very restrictive feeling. As I have said, I tried kde multiple times but its always dozens of small things that I dislike and eventually return back to gnome. I know that kde improved a lot, got faster and more stable, but there always are these problems. (not as much technical as design) |

Whatever works for you... If you tried KDE and didn't like it, just use Gnome. I tried Gnome found that it's not what I expect from DE, so I use DE. I could go in a long talk why and how KDE is better than Gnome, but it would be just why it's better for me, not why it should be better for you.

Well, you can change the color scheme as well. System Settings -> Appearance -> Colors.
I think it's quite useful. See this blog post if you want to know how I use my desktop(s).
In which way? Personally I think Folder View is much more powerful than traditional desktops. For example, I can - show several folders on one desktop. Very useful when working on projects etc. - apply a filter to only show relevant files (e.g. all PDFs in ~/downloads). - navigate into folders on my desktop without opening a file manager. - show other things than just folders. I don't use this at the moment, but for example you can display all files tagged "KDE". Well in the end we're all different - as Primoz said, use what suits your best. How long have you tried Plasma Desktop? Maybe you haven't got used to it yet?
