I apologize for the shameless link to my blog, but it's far easier then me attempting and failing to get an image to play nice on these forums... If you've looked at the image, you can probably put two and two toghter; I need help doing it. It is, after all, a big job ![]()

Very good
![]() And whats more, I'm posting this on KDE Forums, so you might as well imagine that it'd a KDE-centric system.... or WILL be, at any rate. I need people and more resources (i'd be quite interested into looking how Linux Mint got off the ground)

What motivated you to start a new KDE-centric Ubuntu-based distro instead of contributing to Kubuntu? More control?

A change in philosophy;
The distro is called Utopia, and it's aim is to be the Ubuntu of the KDE world; to elaborate on the philosophy, if you could say Ubuntu is based on a humanist philosophy, then Utopia (will be) based on a Transhumanist philosophy. I fully believe that the Utopia of the future HAS to be based on open-source software for it to function. As for the reason I decided to start Utopia instead of contributating to Kubuntu, it's because there are many things I'd like to put into place (Like K.I.I.M), many people have also noticed that Kubuntu gets a little less love because Ubuntu is the main focus. It's failings have given KDE a bad name, and more then once have I seen someone struggle with Kubuntu's (not KDE's) failures. The transhumanist philosophy is that technology can empower the human condition, it can make it better. In terms of applying this ideology to software, it's simple; modern DE's like KDE are technologically advanced, and an increasingly large fanbase are churning out increasingly good ideas. These ideas can enhance the computing experience. Links can also be seen between the liberal Utopia and the F/OSS movement. I also plan to have a focus on AI in Utopia (IE, a catagory in the repos which houses tools and AI programs (and games! ![]() Have a look at the link for the symbol of this distro; (which I'm rather proud of!) http://lifeamongthemachines.wordpress.com/ But as I said, I need people, I need resources, and I NEED to know how to get this off the ground...

I'd definitely try it out, but I'm not sure I would be able to help get it going. I haven't found a KDE distro I'm very happy with, so I think there's room for a new one. Kubuntu has its problems and in Arch I always seem to be fixing random problems that appear.

Well, you could say I hope Utopia to become the Linux Mint of KDE.
I'd love it if, when Utopia is up and running, I could get interested developers to look at some of the ideas on the brainstorm and see what they think. I'd damn well love it if I could take Kubuntu and give it some lovin' ![]() If anyone wants to help, or is just interested, post here or message me ![]()
