I also thought an animal name that reflects the characteristic of rekonq would be nice, because there is already dolphin.
I browse the list of migrating animals (because a webrowser fetch webpage all around the world) searching for a nice one. I found :
Colibri, the french term for Hummingbird (I find the term nicer in french, but perhaps it's even better in some other language)
It' small, fast, can fly big distance, and looks beautifull

I have suggested Surfboard to the rekonq guys before: "When you're surfing the net, you gotta have a good board."

It is a name that people can easily associate with web surfing, and ocean surfing is seen as a cool thing to do.

Colibri is already used by a KRunner type thing for those poor Windows souls who have no such thing built in ;)

May I humbly suggest "Cetus" as a name. It's a constellation of stars commonly known as "the whale". The name is a latinisation of an ancient Greek word for sea monster. Dolphins belong to the Cetacean order, so there is a nice connection there as well.

I like to imagine that the name would also serve as an incentive for the developers to keep the browser bloat-free, so as to avoid unwelcome comparisons with its namesake xD

I would have loved Shark, but I fully agree with Ivan on fair play...

I'd like to suggest orca :)

It is also a sea mammal, so the reference with dolphin is even more obvious, can be spelled with a k if needed to emphasize on KDE.

Plus, it has that slight Italian sonority that gives credit to its creator :p

I like Orca but there is already a GNOME screen reader program called Orca.

Edit: Writing this made me think to go and check out Cetus more thoroughly, and dang it, there is already a compiler infrastructure called Cetus! How about Ceto then, very similar word only this time it's a Greek mythological sea goddess instead. There is some ocean wave electricity generator called Ceto, but I think that wouldn't interfere with a browser.

If Shark isn't an option, how about a *type* of shark? "Mako", "Thresher", stuff like that...?

I do like Recon too, since it's meaningful and so close to the current name.

When I read the second post by Hans my first idea was why not Cumulonimbus or because it's to long name just nimbus...
Anyway even though rekonq is really good, I still hope that what will happen is that there will be a "rekonq" kpart for Konqueror. I know that there is WebKit kpart which I do use from time to time when KHTML fails. But WebKit kpart is far from usable... And somehow it renders better in rekonq than Konqueror with kpart...

I really like Konqueror as a name... that's why I hope for a good future of it. But something along this line would be good to. Just don't know how "politically correct" this would be. here are few ideas:
Konquistador
Kolonizator
Settler ?
Yeah... no...

Shark is cool, but it's unfortunate that there already is a browser of the same name...
But as i mentioned in beginning the cloud name is cool to. Vote for cumulonimbus ;D

Well the current rekonq icon (which I like very much BTW) doesn't really have wings. Sure you can imagine those are wings, but you may also see them as some sort of claws IMHO.

+1 for Drake. That still goes nicely with Dolphin as a file manager. Konqui is a dragon so it's another reason why this should be a good choice.
Oh and it allows to stay with the current cool icon (It is so cool that it really would be sad to drop it due to name change)

Shark would also be nice, but it's taken already :|

+1 for Surfboard :)

Drake is pretty good too, but again please don't make it draKe.

Mako is no good, it's already a template library.

what things about for phoeniKs ? Contraction to Phoenix(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_(mythology) (like amaroK) and the K of KDE.
Or a name of explorers:
Kolumbus (Christopher Columbus)
Kook (from James Cook or cooK, short word in same idea to Wii)
Kousteau (Jacques-Yves Cousteau)

Hi! As rekonq is quite similar in behaviour to Chromium, I think a good name could be a chemical element.
How about:
- Natrium
- Cadmium (or even Kadmium)
- Kalium
- Helium (this one would fit, as names like Oxygen, or Nitrogen are trendy in KDE)
- ...

BTW: I like Phoeniks and Drake

+1 Drake or Shark

Recon = In our country we always associate it with the word "Reconditioned"... so it's not a good idea. :-)
