If it's not too late to suggest a name, might I suggest Seeker? It's lightweight, fast, and the name vaguely is connected to Konqueror.

Okay, I've read most of this thread and thought I'd throw in a few ideas and opinions:

Some K-centric names:

Kayak- used to navigate and explore. Very versatile and lightweight.
Kompass- play on compass, which is use for finding places.
Rekon- play on reconnaissance, conveys exploration and scouting
Disko- possibly from the Latin word 'discurro' meaning to run to and fro, which would represent the back and forth exchange of data online. Also similar to the word discovery, which lends to the idea of discovering the web

Non-K-centric names:

Scout
Seeker

Rimor- In Latin means to examine, explore, investigate, root up
Nobis- "the world belongs to us" in Latin
Vigo- from the Latin navigo meaning to navigate
Volo- latin for fly, move rapidly
Orbit

Already mentioned names that I like:

Nimbus
Drake- also could be a reference to the explorer Sir Francis Drake

Names mentioned that I don't like:

Shark- this just seems too generic. I just couldn't see myself telling someone, "open Shark and watch this video on youtube."

Orca
- reminds me of ocular the pdf viewer

Out of all these, Disko would be my favorite so far. I'll think of more and add them as I go.

I'm not against Kweb though, I don't mind having all my KDE programs named with generic descriptive names. I would like to be able to easily rename all these programs though. That would be more KDE like in my opinion. I don't like all the forced K names like Kaffeine, Too many names starting with one letter makes it hard to find things on your computer or in the system activity. With generic names each distro or individual could rename their programs. For example I use openSUSE and could have SUSEmail and SUSEweb. This is really getting off topic, so I apologize, i just wanted to mention that idea too.

Okay time for bed.

I think Vigo is a good name for Rekonq. Rimor sounds good and have so much sense.

Well, for what is worth, I propose the names "Scirocco", "Mistral", "Haze", "Breeze" (or even the Portuguese translation - "Brisa"). =)

It's time to drop the K-naming stuff, in my humble opinion. Not cool, sorry. =p It doesn't slip through your tongue as a G or an I... For Latin ears, most KDE app names pronunciation seems like screeching nails on a blackboard... also, leave Esperanto alone... =p

@rekonq team:
We have a good amount of proposals here! I think version 0.5 is taking lot of your time these days. Anyway, do you have any target version for name changing? What are your feelings about all these proposed names?
Maybe it is time for a short list to focus on the final choice...

Maybe we should list all the proposed names and put them to vote? The vote wouldn't be meant for forcing anything, but just to let developers know of users' preferences :)

I think rekonq team should propose the short list:
  1. It is their "baby" so let them filter the proposals prior to any vote.
  2. It will be much easier to vote on a restricted choice emitted by the dev team itself.
Or they can choose, for any reason, to stick with rekonq name, which is also an option.

what the hell?! Rekonq is fine (it's google friendy, it's short it's clear that rekonq is successor of konqueror and it looks good)... shark is not is too generic, not search friendly, it sound silly and it's to close to wireshark

cloudy name like:
- Cirrus, Nimbus, Cumulonimbus - doesn't sound good, no search friendly, doesn't fit to web browser
- Cetus - sounds like fetus :/
- Shayu - good name for village ****
- Duck - come on... donald or duffy?
- Thresher - first thought: trash shredder
- Konquistador - "we are going to slaughter your java scripts!"
- Kolonizator - "we will make little browser babys..."
- Kolumbus - not google friendly
- Kook - sounds like cook or hook
- Kousteau - not bad but who can write french proparly to krunner?

if you really REALLY need new name, we must find better proposals (maybe mix of words or latina/japanese legacy, or name of famous scientist or name of star or galaxy?)

- animals are hard, also mozilla seems to be tarzan of IT jungle (firefox, thunderbird, sea monkey, fennec etc.)

as a fan of star wars i propose "lightsaber" or "saber" itself ;)

I don't - the problem: it sounds bizarre ;)

It's a matter of taste anyway.
