Rekonq is a lightweight, WebKit based web browser for KDE
Many people complain of its name. I open this topic so that anyone can propose a new one. Please give the reasons that explain your choice and don't hesitate to propose ideas for an icon related to the name. Current proposals: - Shark (name in conflict with an other browser) - Orca (already used) - Mako (already used) - Cetus - Boto (already used) - Recon - DraKe (already used) - Shayu - Duck - Colibri (already used) - Surfboard - Cirrus - Nimbus - Cumulonimbus - Thresher - Konquistador - Kolonizator - Kolumbus - Kook - Kousteau

I vote for Shark (or sharK, whatever)… web browser, in regards to Dolphin, file manager

I kind of like Shark. NOT sharK! That's so KDE 3.

Yes, Shark seems a good name. At least, I can't think of a better one.

Digged a little after Shark proposal and found this:
https://sites.google.com/site/sharkbrowser/ Browser for iPone/iPod touch. Dunno if that can be an issue ... |

I think Shark would be okay, because Dolphin is also named after a fish. However, sharks suffer from a bad reputation because they are often related to attacks on humans, dolphins have a more friendly reputation. Recon, which was proposed in the comments on the blog post, also has my preference, because it is more descriptive of the function of a web browser.

Am I correct to assume that this is requested by the Rekonq developers?
I like Shark - it sounds fast and goes well with Dolphin, as said. The only problem I see is name conflicts (similar to how Firebird had to change to Firefox).

Doesn't look like the Shark browser referenced above has any sort of copyright or trademark so should be ok.
Recon sound good as well, I am not partial to either, but I do like the Dolphin/Shark combo. |

I suggest DraKe - in part because of Konqi, partly because of the logo shown on the Rekonq screenshot section:

The dolphin is not a fish ![]() But I got your point. Shark is kind of "agressive" but instead of thinking of people attack, blood and jaws, why not see it as fast, precise, adapted, etc. ? |

The problem with drake is that the type of dragon that's called a drake is wingless... and the only drake with wings is a male duck

given this browser just uses a generic engine like the legions of pointless unknown of the sort like midori, epiphany, arora, kmeleon,... not even true kde reusable technology like kpart
the obvious choice : "Surrenderor" SCNR ![]() |

Firefox changed the name from Firebird not for legal reasons, but for /fair play/ since an free/open source database was named that.
Concerning Shark, it could be problematic since both programs (rekonq and the existing shark) are web browsers. From my point of view, it would be foul play from our part because that /other/ Shark would never be returned as a search result by google/yahoo... - KDE programs tend to climb to the top ![]() On the other side, it *would* be a rather cool name ![]() |

By the way, I just thought of something referring to "the cloud" - Cirrus. When I see the word I think of feather, lightweight, beautiful, and overall nice [weather]. Not sure if it says anything to the "regular" person however, perhaps it's hard to remember?
