Hi.
I don't know if this is a bug, or intended behavior, or something I have configured wrong, but I noticed that KDE dialogs are silent. I it set in the notifications KCM to play a sound when a certain type of dialog comes up like question, or error, but I don't get the sound out of it when such a dialog comes up. (and sound works) This has happened from an early pre release of 4.3 to 4.4.1 (I did not get to test 4.5 yet...)) |

Do you get the startup or logout sounds played at the appropriate times?

Can you reproduce under a new user?

I tried creating a second user, and I don't get sounds for those dialogs (I can get the kwin new window sound, but not the question or error sounds, on dialogs that I would assume would make those sounds, like the Konqueror dialog when you close a window with two tabs, the Kate dialog when you close an unsaved document, and the setting changed dialog you get from systemsettings). It also does the same on Live cd's and my other KDE install.

If you look in ~/.xsession-errors after triggering the notification, are there any entries present which may reveal why it fails? ( Such as missing files, etc. )

Thanks for taking the time to help me with this.
I tried to change a KCM, without saving the changes, and there is nothing about notifications or failure in the general area of this line in xsession-errors: kwin(1218) KWin::Client::readUserTimeMapTimestamp: User timestamp, final: 'ID: 62933987 ;WMCLASS: "systemsettings" : "systemsettings" ;Caption: "Apply Settings – System Settings" ' : 359082 |

Can you please file a bug with your distribution? Given that it happens under a new user, there may be a problem with your packages missing a file...

The sound files associated appear to be there. I tried a OpenSuse live CD (instead of kubuntu) with KDE on it, and I tried to test it,
The KCM confirm dialog did not play the "A question is being displayed" sound either. I would have tested more dialogs, but then it hung with my CD drive trying to read the disk for an hour. One last question before I report to Kubuntu: Does your system make the sounds for the dialogs I am describing? Thanks |

Hmm... indeed it doesn't work here, although the sounds play when triggered from the notifications control panel. Can you please file a bug at bugs.kde.org instead?
