Dolphin split view + multiple tabs = useless

I just opened a few tabs while I had a split view open in Dolphin and spent 15 seconds until I figured out what is happening. It's a not the views that has tabs, but it is the tabs that has views! Geez
This way, every tab behaves like a single Dolhin window itself, so if I have 3 tabs, it's like 3 Dolphin window grouped together. Which has no benefit at all. Instead of opening a new tab, I could just as well open a new Dolphin instance.

However if the views had tabs, it would allow the user much more flexibility, ie. for a 3-way file copying. Or in other words (and from product management view), while current behavior is just a different representation of an existing function (aka duplication), the latter would offer a bit different functionality.
Just like good old Total Commander does.

+1! I was also confused on its behaviour and gave up on it when I decided it was too unintuitive to be useful.

If you're looking for a software similar to Total Commander, you could try krusader ;)

This is consistent across all of KDE. Konqueror behaves the same way. It's completely predictable. What's the issue?

Not at all, konqueror and dolphin are very similar, but for example konsole behaviour is different.

While this way of doing it might make sense in Konqueror.
(You browse the web in one tab and in other tab you use split view to move a file..)
This way of doing it is useless in Dolphin. I tried it once and never again...

Anyway I guess if OP (karatedog) wants to see this change he should propose this in brainstorm section.

I'm still looking around how things work here in the community, I'll give it a try.
