You have to implement this in KTabWidget, which is a widget. But it should not get default actions I think. But there are default shortcuts in KStandardShortcuts. Implementing switching tabs is about writing 20 lines of code. I'm another one of those which really appreciate the addition of Dolphin as a file browser. Konqueror always seemed too big and clunky for me.

Yeah, with Konqueror it felt like there was "too much there" for mere file browsing/managing. Dolphin gives me all the tools needed for me and does so in a nicely polished and easy to use way.
...springloaded tabs would always be nice though. |

OK I agree with the original author of this thread in almost every respect. But then I love to use Konqueror. The way it integrates the image viewer and advanced text editor, the only thing that needed to be done was to separate the browser. Konqueror have more advanced look and feel than Dolphin. By using dolphin I feel as if I have downgraded to something. Cant we have additional features of dolphin in konqueror itself? so that we may choose our preferred file browser either small or feature rich.

If I'm guessing correctly what you mean by "springloaded tabs"*, this feature is already in SVN ![]() * Drag an item over a tab and hover for a second or so, and you switch to the target tab.

Folders panel looks ugly as compared to location panel. Places panel consumes too much space when there was absolutely great and beautiful navigation panel. We cannot use *.desktop files. Terminal window does not changes path as and when we browse locations. (that was the only feature why I used them)[hr]
oops thats not a problem of Dolphin but of Konqueror. Actually this thing happens in konqueror so I think that it is a bug?

Personally, I would love a "Open folder in new tab" if I right-click over it. That's THE one thing I miss in Dolphin kompared to the Konqueror of old.

I went to Dolphin's home page and also did some searches but I could not find a proper / updated roadmap for Dolphin. There seems to be many complains so it would be nice to know what is going to be done to fix them and what will be the planned features.
Does a "publlic" roadmap for Dolphin exists and I am just too blind to find it? If someone knows where to find it, please share your knowledge ![]()

Don't we already have that? I thought they shared the same file views.

Nope, you are not alone. I love Dolphin! I especially like the way USB icons are handled when one inserts a memory stick or USB device! The device widget pops up and when one clicks on the device in the listing Dolphin opens up and displays the contents of the USB device. When one is finished using the USB device merely right click on it in the "Places" panel and chose "Safely Remove", then pull it out. Simple. Sweet. The only thing I find missing in KDE4 (at the present time) is K4B. i.e., a version of K3B for KDE4. I have deliberately tried to minimize the number of KDE3 apps and libraries that get loaded into my KDE4 installation and K3B wants to pull in most of the KDE3 stuff. Also, when I do a test pull, I notice about 5 libraries that conflict with KDE4 libraries and want to remove them. That's not going to happen! Meanwhile, I am using Nero 3 because "cdmason" isn't good enough and I don't want to load GNOME apps if I can avoid it. (GNOME is a find DE, I just prefer KDE4.) |

In the evening I will commit the above mentioned patch to switch between tabs. Then, I will have a look on the "Open folder in new tab" feature. It is the second time I notice this wish in this forum. Great to hear! Anyone who complains that FOSS-devs doesn't listen to the users obviously hasn't met or talked to many of you!

Doesn't middle-click on folder open it in a new tab...that's one less click.
